Parakeet/Budgie Staple VME Seed, 3-Pound

I recently bought the Hagen Parakeet/Budgie Staple VME Seed for my birds, and I’ve been really happy with it. This premium blend seems to be well‑balanced and fortified with nutrients, which makes me feel good about feeding it to my budgies.My birds eat it eagerly and seem healthy and active, which is exactly what you want in a staple seed mix. The quality feels good — the seeds look fresh and not dusty or broken up like some other brands I’ve tried my birds really love it.Overall, this seed mix is a solid choice if you’re looking for something nutritious and reliable for your small birds. No artificial colors or junk! I looked at a lot of different seed mixes for parakeets. Not the marketing hype, just straight to the ingredients. There are only a few that don’t have artificial colors, soybean and other fillers. This is the only one which is affordable in that bunch. I saw another brand who has organic seeds plus fruits and veggies. I saw that the same first ingredient is included in this seed mix, millet. But the seed is 1/5 the price. I will, of course, have to supplement with other foods like veggies and fruits to make up for the lack of in this mix. But I am very happy that there is only orange oil added with vitamins and nutrients. I don’t think the vitamins and nutrients are actually a benefit, but at least there is no poisonous colors or genetically modified soy or other harmful additives. I am happy with this for my lennie parakeet. And I just got it out of the bag and he went absolutely bonkers for it! I am very satisfied.

I got my parakeet from a young boy. He had never had birds before and bought what the pet store had available to feed birds with. Most of these are filled with chunks of stuff that resembles lucky charms cereal and is very brightly colored. I brought the little guy home and found out he had extreme diarrhea and it was reddish orange. I knew from much previous experience that parakert poop looks like a little black and white ball that hardens and is easily cleaned up without staining things in the house while out of his cage. I shopped the stores and couldn't find anything that didn't have the lucky charms in it. I bought something and tried it with the same results. I shopped again only on Amazon that time. I found this very simple product that was merely 4 seeds that parakeets eat. Also in the food the pet stores offer there are always seeds and other components that the birds will leave in their containers and refuse to eat. My parakeet eats every single seed from this formula ands loves it! After beginning to eat this mixture, his diarrhea went away quickly, his cere turned blue and his feathers became brightly colored. His former family lost 2 other parakeets in the time between purchasing him with another one and replacing the other one when it died. The other bird died on Christmas day and the despairing boy decided he didn't want to have birds anymore. I suspect that the frufru parakeet food killed the other 2 birds and my Pickles was fortunate or cussid enough to survive. Emphasis on cussid. I am so thankful to have found this product. It is lasting a good long time too.

I mix this seed blend with frozen chopped vegetables and fruit for my four budgies.Pros:- No pellets; that's a plus for me, because one of my birds is allergic to some kinds of pellets, and is why I first chose this seed blend- Super clean. They're not kidding when they say it's dust-free!- Good qualityCons:- A little on the expensive side, but that may be reflective of the fact that it's 100% seeds with none of the fillers you find in pet shop blends- Fortified with vitamins/minerals--Why, Hagen? Budgies hull their seeds, so they don't get any benefit from vitamins or minerals sprayed on the hull. Might as well pour them down the drain.Overall, this seed mix is a good fit for my budgies' needs, and I've recommended it several times to other budgie and small parrot owners.

I've tried several different brands for Astrid, my parakeet and she likes this one best. I'm not throwing away very much at all like I was doing with other brands.

I use this to feed the birds outside. Regular wild bird food is a waste because there's a lot of waste. It actually is cheaper than wild bird food and the birds eat it all. No waste

I've fed my birds many seed brands but find this product to be excellent quality seed. I try to feed my parakeets the best seed I can find. I also add to their diet a vitamin supplement, chopped fresh fruits and vegetables. If you keep birds as pets you owe it to them to feed them a healthy and varied diet. I highly recommend this bird seed product.

Remember your budgie perokeet needs a diet that should be balanced diet of 70% high-quality formulated pellets, 20% fresh vegetables and fruits, and a small amount of seeds or millet. Great quality and also great price for the quantity. My birds love this seed mix. Great for their needs. I just add some fresh veggies etc to be well balanced. It also gets shipped to me quickly with no problems. Would definitely recommend!

I wasn't sure which brand of seed to buy for my budgie, but I've always know about the good reputation of Hagen, so I decided to buy this brand when I saw it. I'm certainly glad that I did, because my budgie really seems to love this food, even preferring it over her budgie treats and millet; after reading the back of the bag I am not surprised! This food is full of absolutely everything that wild budgies seek out in the wild, and has the pleasant smell of oranges. My budgie seems happy and looks very healthy too - I am going to go out on a limb, and say that most budgies would enjoy eating this seed mix, and I highly recommend it - my budgie loves the seed, and I love the price and reasonable bag size!

At first when I replaced my budgies' usual seed with this enriched one they flatly refused to eat it and even shovelled it out onto the floor of the aviary. However, later when I offered it in a separate bowl in addition to their usual seed, they really liked it and even fought over it. It is now a firm favourite of theirs. The mixture looks interesting and my budgies are looking in peak condition. Will definitely buy it again.
