First impressions
Firstly, I will, and do, update my reviews if I write an early review and then things go pear shaped. So this is just first my impression of the Xiaomi. This is a sturdy piece of kit ( I'm comparing it with scooters seen and hired on holiday). It's smart and dark grey apart from the grips and platform. It's also a matt finish which gives it an expensive look.It was so easy to attach the handlebars - I'm a woman and I didn't need to read the instructions. As it was on three bars of battery when I turned on the scooter it was just a matter of a couple of hours to get to a full charge.I checked the tyre pressure as soft tyres aren't a good idea on any vehicle. Then it was off down the street. I haven't measured performance with the app but the acceleration and speed was good. Yesterday I rode it back in the rain out of necessity. Having put it in the back of the car my plan was to ride it back from the garage where I left my car for repair. Unfortunately the rain arrived a bit earlier than forecast so I had no choice but to get home as quickly as possible. In the rain the scooter's performance suffered. Only to be more expected I suppose. Because the power button is on the top I was worried about water getting but all seems okay. When got home I dried off the scooter with a cloth and I'm glad I did it as it was very wet. My advice is don't ride it in the rain. They're not designed for it, but the odd time will probably do no harm. Remember they are advertised as splash proof only.I haven't tested the range yet. Work and more rain have stopped play. Reading other reviews it seems that temperature really matters with regards to the range of the scooter. Since the weather has been unseasonably cold I am hoping that claims about 18 miles range prove to be true in warm weather. The brakes appear to work well though I found releasing the throttle and coasting to a halt enough on a clear path. It has certainly made me appreciate how I need to be responsible as a pedestrian as well as a scooter rider. Some pedestrians walk all over the place!I think the scooter is a good buy. If you can find it from a UK outlet that offers an extended warranty then all the better.Definitely better on a cycle path than the pavement. However, I am aware that I would only ride it in certain places as in my town there are particular locations where I could get pulled over for using a non legal form of transport however responsibly I am riding. So be aware of hot spots in your own locality.First impressions summary - great fun and a useful gadget for short journeys and commutes 😀

This is soooo much fun… I wonder how I ever lived without it! Pro tip at the bottom of the review
I live in London and usually commute by tube. After getting really frustrated with overcrowding (and a recommendation from a mate at work) I decided to get an electric scooter. The top speed I get on the flat is about 15.5mph (verified by my Garmin 810 and Strava for iOS) and a little faster on the downhill. However the range is a little more variable. I commute 8 miles and a full battery (when starting) is usually about 38% once I arrive at work. A few things shorten the range such as regular slowing and accelerating in traffic, going up hill, cold UK spring.I also find it hard to reach 15.5mph when the battery is on the last bar (approx. 25% or less) but this is generally normal as the voltage of a rechargeable battery drops when its low.As for the tyres, these give a comfy ride because they are air filled but you are prone to punctures. The tyres and inner tubes are hard to change and you don’t want to be doing this at the side of the road. Luckily there is a hack!** PRO TIP **To puncture proof your tyres, you’ll need a ‘Schrader valve removal tool’ and some sealant (I use ‘Stan’s sealant’ 59ml bottle, but other brands are available).Steps:1. Lie the scooter on it’s side and fully deflate one tyre.2. Use the valve tool to remove the valve from the inner tube.3. Pour about 30ml of sealant into the inner tube.4. Use the valve tool to replace the valve – make sure it’s tight.5. Re-inflate the tyre to 45-50 PSI.6. Repeat the process on the other tyre.If you get a puncture, the sealant will leak out and clog the hole just like your blood clots when you cut yourself.

OMG This is so much fun
I have wanted one of these for a while but was waiting for a proper UK specific version and to be able to buy from a well known reputable retailer like Amazon.First impressions on taking out of box is that it is a great looking machine and pretty much all assembled. You simply need to screw in handle bar which takes a minute or two. Then simply charge for a few hours and get ready to have sum serious fun.The scooter was in default economy mode which actually gives off a fairly decent speed. A short press of the power button takes you into normal mode which seriously increases the speed. This is not like an electric scooter from the likes of Razor. It’s bigger and faster. Giving it a 10 minute run about with some uphill there was no noticeable difference on battery meter so this should last a fair while but probably nowhere near 10 miles. However if it lasts 5 miles that is pretty good as this will not replace a car but short journeys. There is a little squeaky noise coming from back wheel but other than that it is excellent. Will follow up review after some proper use in the next few weeks.

Great but a few things you should know...
Ok, first off the scooter will not travel 18 miles... Ever... It just won't happen, so don't buy this thinking it's going to go for 18 miles. I myself weigh around 14 stone and with my weight I can get around 10 miles max out of this thing. Now, that is in UK coldness... When its warm, I am unsure. The scooter will take you max around 12 miles if you're very lucky... BUT I HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU DON'T DO THIS AS IT IS PAINFUL! Use the scooter for short distances of 4-5 miles a time as your back will thank you for it! HOWEVER the scooter is very good, it does mostly what it says. Just don't kid yourself if you think you're going county to county on this thing... It won't take you 18 miles, it just won't...

Charge ain’t great
The item is okay for travelling if you’re not planning on using it for long periods of time, the battery doesn’t hold as long as I expected and I have to charge it half way through the day! I use it for work to get from client to client and it kinda sucks when I have to charge it all the time
