Make it Snappy Tools 3 Piece Tapered Plug Cutter Set

I do not own a drill press and was not looking forward to creating 500+ plugs with clamp, drill, unclamp to cut 1 plug. I created a jig with some scrap oak flooring and was able to use a hand drill to create 300 in an hour. Drilled a 5/8" hole for 3/8" cutter. Cutter held up perfectly for he first 300 after that I noticed it was tearing the wood or smoking while cutting. I used my lawn mower blade sharpener a few strokes along each tooth and it was cutting like new again. Once I got the hang of moving the jig around I was making the best use of the board.

Needed to use these to cut plugs for a black walnut railing cap and they did great!Suggest if you don't have a drill press, then an impact driver or a drill on the 2 will do just fine in soft wood.

I managed to miss that bit, I wish it was a little more strongly advertised that you can’t use these with a hand drill. I did try… poor results.

I've been using the C-style plug cutters for years and that has been okay but they rarely cut a nicely smooth plug. I was looking for a better plug cutter for some more precise woodworking repairing guitars. These cutters a precision ground, quite sharp and cut very clean plugs in all the woods I've tried so far. I'm very happy with them.

Follow the instructions (some posters clearly haven't) and this set works flawlessly in hardwoods. The set has the most useful sizes for most woodworking applications.Update 2-6-2020 I used the 1/4" cutter on Australian red gum and it snapped all four teeth off using a slow feed. Maybe I wasn't slow enough, but one would think it should work on this hardwood Granted, red gum is dense wood, but should be as easy to cut as the white oak and other hardwoods I routinely use. Dropped a couple stars for this reason.

I bought these for the primary reason that they were a set of plug cutters made in the US. The set I purchased covered the sizes I needed and came well packed and in good shape. I have used these quite a few times now over the past several months on very hard material (bone) for making perfectly round inlays. They cut well and get the job done. I use them in a drill press at the recommended RPMs for the size of the plug and material and they do what I need. The slight taper that is cut during the process does make fit into corresponding holes easier. That slight chamfer really makes for a tight fit. Thanks for a quality product Make it Snappy!

Wouldn’t recommend and had a cancer warning on packaging.

Not very sharp. Plugs came out pretty rough.
