Does this mute work with violas?

It depends on the size of the viola but I would say not. Even with some violins, it does not work. I have not found out exactly what but it seems to do with the distance between the strings and/or the thicknss of the bridges. On some violins, it does not mute at all whereas with some other violins, it is wonderful and easy to work with.
