An OK model
I've built a few Trumpeter models now, and have been impressed with their quality. The level of detail at this scale, and price, is really quite an eye opener as to what's possible. I originally built the old Airfix 1/600 version, but that's showing its age so badly now, and was pretty awful to build (poor mouldings, poorly fitting parts, and very little detail). The Trumpeter 1/700 Ark Royal is quite a nice kit, but unlike the others in their range, which have a choice of hull layouts, this is a waterline version only. Although that's not too bad for me, as I've also built a few of the Tamiya kits, which are all waterline, and this fits in nicely with the rest. This kit also includes a few photo-etched parts (very small brass parts that are very detailed), which I've come across, but never built with before. So there's a bit of learning curve there. It all went together fine though, after watching a few online videos, and does add to the look nicely. The planes are quite fiddly too, and made from quite a few small parts, but patience is the key, and you'll get them built. It seems they've also given a choice, the decals don't have enough to cover all the planes, and I believe the option is to choose between the Fulmars and the Skuas, which were changed at some point.Overall a nice kit, well detailed, although reasonably advanced, and maybe not for the full hull fans.
