Best Little Device for the Wallet and Streaming!
I'm a retired CFO and IT guy who never took NO for an answer. So when they said "Good Luck Finding Something For My Needs", off I went... As you can see in the first pic, my fireplace with the TV on it has no soundbar. I did not want to lock myself into anything that I would eventually change out down the road which would leave unwanted holes in the wood under the TV. I wasn't upset about the TV since the TV mount could be used for nearly any size TV. I wanted my soundbar to be able to be placed anywhere I wanted in the living room. After experimenting with several devices, Avantree proved to be the best overall. Granted, at first I had my 10 year old 55" 3D Toshiba LCD TV on the wall of which I was getting up near a 1/2 second sound delay. Obviously I thought it was just the nature of the beast and shrugged it off as it mostly only happened with live TV. Since I mostly watched streaming video, this delay never impacted my entertainment of watching. After receiving, however, a Sony Bravia TV of only 2 to 3 years old, this delay nearly disappeared altogether in live TV. Okay - so on to the next chapter of my project; I have recessed lighting throughout my living room and adjoining kitchen. I wanted to take advantage of them and add a few recessed speakers or even speaker/lights, although I'm leaning towards just speakers alone for many reasons I won't go into here. I already know this TC417 Avantree has the ability of pairing two devices simultaneously, so I once again set off to start on this project. I started by inquiring of these BT speaker companies whether or not they would work with this device. If they responded at all, their answer was a simple, "NO", of which I won't go into. I was getting very disappointed. Brain Spurt!! Why not ask Avantree who they recommend??? I set off emailing them and to my surprise, not only did they answer me immediately, they helped me decide what to do during the exchange of several emails over several days, VERY impressive!! Their solution? Buy another TC417, (which I was heading towards), and put it in RX (receiving mode) and attach it to any speaker set I want. Does this work as of this writing, perhaps, who knows. I'm certain it will and I will follow up when I complete this project which may take some time as I won't get to it for several months. However, I was just so impressed with this company I simply had to write it up and let people know how great this device is currently working for me, and how great customer service is. For the money, you simply cannot go wrong!! I'll follow up once I get my recessed system working. Thank you for reading and hope you have as much fun with this device as I do.

Once set-up, product works beautifully to connect TV wirelessly to receiver (2 units)
I purchased these to connect my television to my receiver/sound system wirelessly. The system performs beautifully now, but it was a bit of a challenge to get working properly, perhaps due to a defective optical cable (not the one supplied, but one I had). Now that it is set up, it performs flawlessly. The delay is NOT bad at all, and easily corrected in-set on the television. A few things to note: 1) At first, setting one unit as transmitter on my television, and the other as a receiver (on my stereo receiver), I had some trouble getting them to pair, but I put the units close to each other and this problem was solved. 2) I still had no audio signal at my stereo receiver. To try to trace the problem back, I first plugged the transmitter into the RCA jacks on my TV and plugged headphones into the receiver (this worked). Next, I plugged the receiver into my amplifier using the RCA plugs (this worked), then tried with the transmitter hooked to the tv optical out (this worked), and finally got it working via the optical cable to my receiver. NOTE: During this process, at one point I had the transmitter broadcasting DIRECTLY to my receiver's bluetooth input --- this was HORRIBLE, with a completely unacceptable delay, but this was the fault of the STEREO RECEIVER, NOT the fault of the Avantree adapter. Using an Avantree Adapter, there is virtually no delay, and it works perfectly. Moral to the story - if you experience a delay, it is likely to your bluetooth receiving unit delay, and not due to the Avantree products. You can, if you want, purchase a second Avantree unit as a headphone/stereo bluetooth receiving unit, and this will solve your delay problem. A+ for the product. This is exactly what I was looking for!

Works as expected. Watch the video!
Review based on setting up using the optical output, and pairing some Jaybird Earbuds. Watch the setup video to understand the switches, connection and TV setting requirements. Pairing the first time with my Jaybirds took about 3 tries, but when I had them off, the device on, then powered them on and into pairing mode it connected straight away holding them right next to the unit did not speed up the process. Reconnections have been automatic, but take 30 seconds or so. The device powers itself down after a time, so be sure to turn it on before powering up your headphones or wireless buds. Final settings: Switch in transmit mode, switch in SPDIF, TV output to optical, sound in PCM. Volume is just enough. It would be good if it were a little louder, but it's enough. Update 7/21/19 the device still works fine, but the company emails me every day or two asking if it's working okay, or if I can leave a review, which obviously I have. If it continues, I'll either think they have the greatest customer service ever, or ding them a star for not leaving me alone.

Great little device to enhance my TV viewing experience!
I have a couple of small Bluetooth receivers/transmitters. When used solely for music, in their own right they sound great. However when I use them with my TV, while they still sound great, there is a noticeable sync issue. Once in a while I enjoy watching TV (especially live soccer!) with my surround speakers. Connecting a wire directly between my TV and the speakers will result in a little mess and my TV does not support Bluetooth natively. Using my existing devices wasn't cutting it since the audio was noticeably out of sync with the video. Enter this little Avantree device. This is now always connected to my TV. No more out of sync issues! To be able to watch live soccer with my surround sound speakers and have the commentator shout "Goooooal!" perfectly in sync when a goal is actually scored sure is great! Not to mention being able to watch TV shows, movies etc and have the audio perfectly synced up with the lips of the actresses/actors! As an added bonus I also now get to utilize the Optical Audio Out on my TV too (other devices I own only support standard AUX/RCA). So not only is the audio perfectly in sync with the video, it also sounds better too! This little device has been a great addition to the TV entertainment in my home...and it's small enough that you can easily conceal it too. If you're looking for a way to watch TV with audio synced up well on your speakers and don't want to deal with the hassle of wires, I highly recommend getting this Avantree device!

Good little transmitter!
I bought a big TCL UHD TV and a great pair of Sony noise-cancelling headphones 6 months ago, but needed a transmitter to use them together. It's only necessary in the summer when I have A/C and/or various fans running with windows open and cannot hear the TV over ambient noise. I did extensive research, but went back and forth on how much I wanted to spend, how much I needed for 1 set of headphones. This little unit was perfect. The charge lasts for about 12 hours (of use) before it needs at least 2 hours to charge up via USB plug or computer and it cannot be simultaneously charged and used. But that is about how much constant use I get out of the headphones charge, so if you keep track of the charge time, you can charge both overnight. The only problem I had was re-connecting the pair. The instructions said to turn on the unit, then turn on the headphones to search for each other. Perhaps that's just the first time, because every other time when the Avantree claimed to be connected, there's no way to tell what it connected to: the computer, my phone...because it wasn't the headphones. I've found it's easiest to connect the headphones to the transmitter by doing this: turn off my phone's bluetooth, turn on the headphones, then turn on Avantree to have them sync immediately, then turn on the phone bluetooth when I need it. Sound has never lagged, cut out or gotten static-y, even as I move through the house. I have only used it as a transmitter. There are several ways to attach it to the TV; I went with the optic input and have no regrets. I highly recommend this.

Item is useless if you use it with a TV
I purchased this to set up two headsets using the optical out. Obviously, everything was connected and hidden behind the TV so it wasn't an eyesore. I connected it to USB power so it always had power at all times. It worked fine once it was set up but the next day it didn't work. I had to manually get behind the tv and turn it on again. I did this for three days and is was getting very annoying. On the off hand chance maybe something was set up wrong, I contacted the company to ask about this issue and how I could set it so that it always stayed on and ready to use. After a week of back and forth emails they finally said that the device worked correctly, but that it was not designed to stay on. Essentially, the design of the device was poorly conceived. Their first suggestion was to return it (which I did) and buy their more expensive unit (which I didn't). Their customer service was poor at best. I purchased another similar device which was actually less expensive than this one and it worked perfectly. It doesn't shut off in between uses. If you don't want to have to get up to turn it on every time you want to use the device, then steer clear of getting this one.

TWO devices later... 🙃 BEWARE of new/updated item on the SAME Amazon listing 👀
Unfortunately, this transmitter was such a headache... but we have a happy ending, keep reading. THE OLD DEVICE (same listing) I was not able to transfer the audio from the tv with this transmitter although the device claimed it was connected. I was trying to connect this to different headphones including the Mpow and Sony WH100XM2 headphones. Every attempt was unsuccessful and never connected the audio, not even once. I tried this on a NON-smart TV, that had the proper hookups in the back of the tv panel. These are the steps I took: 1. Plugged the white/red cord into TV 2. Turned the switch to TX 3. The transmitter starts blinking and I connected it to the headphones 4. The headphones say connected + the light stops blinking 5. NO SOUND will connect to the headphone(s) even though it says paired. 6. I tried switching my TV's audio settings (PCM, Surround, Surround + PCM) around but nothing worked. 7. Repeated, too many times to count. After messaging the seller, communicating directly with Avantree's support team, the issue remained unresolved. After sending them images of my tv's connection, they deemed the box incompatible and defective (which they said was "rare"). Avantree's support team was very nice and helpful, they offered to send a replacement but I requested a refund instead. A few months later, they sent me the new/updated version the "TC417 Bluetooth Transmitter/Receiver," which actually worked without any connection issues. THE NEW DEVICE (same listing) PLEASE NOTE: This listing is constantly being updated with the NEWEST Avantree item. The one I received (the defective one) is NOT the same item for this listing. BUT, the product link/page IS the same... not sure if Amazon or the seller is aware of this. The New device connects easily but DOES have a lot of static and shorter-range without dropping its connection. This will be annoying for watching Youtube videos as you will get a lot of hissing whenever someone stops talking. I would only use this device to play music or watch HD sound-quality movies. Not sure why this is only an issue for watching Youtube videos... but the hissing sounds are only apparent on Youtube or Game Streaming. I would recommend this current/new TC417 device now that it has been updated but would be cautious of the static. I hope this somewhat helps :)

Easy to Install and Audio Sync Is Brilliant
First, I have a somewhat complicated setup, which only provides greater reasons to use this Transmitter. In one of the photos, you'll see an HDMI splitter that also has RCA and Optical connections for audio out options. The goal was to transmit from the splitter (which also connects to my projector) to the LaguLake Soundbar, 2.1 Channel TV Sound Bar system across the room (see photo). Prior to Avantree device, I had used a similar Tao device that was a couple of years old that decided to stop working after ~18 months which was a bummer. It was a great device; however, I struggled with the audio sync between the splitter and the Bluetooth speaker system at times which was frustrating and annoying. So, with that configuration, the only challenge was NOT following the directions. I couldn't figure out why, when I pushed the 'pairing' button, nothing happened. Well, it helps to turn on the device first, once I figured that out, it automatically went into pairing mode and paired with the Bluetooth speaker system in about 10 seconds and I was good to go! The most important thing to me is that the audio matches the person's lips. The previous device was good; however, it was older technology, had a shorter range, and you could tell that it wasn't always quite in sync which made it frustrating. The distance this transmits and the fact there is no latency and the audio syncs up perfectly through my fire stick was a huge win out of the box! The video is only attached to demonstrate/validate that the audio synch works. The sound is better in my basement so ignore the audio quality - the intent is to show the sync. I'll come back, especially if it does not prove to be reliable, etc. But first look and review, this is solid and a worthwhile investment!

Great little device
I got this so I could watch television using my Bluetooth headphones. The volume could be a little louder but it works just fine. The audio is crackly when I try and charge it while in use, but the battery life is actually pretty good anyway. I get about three days use before I need to recharge it. I’m happy with the purchase. It does exactly what I wanted and is easy to use.

Works with Costco Kirkland 10.0 hearing aids.
Works very well with the Kirkland 10.0 hearing aids on my LG TV. And is less than half the price of the Phonak unit which is on a 9 month backorder. Slight latency noticed when on TV speakers + optical cable output if volume is too high on speakers. Still much better and clearer than without it and just TV speakers.
