My review for The Faceless Ones
It was Ok, the ending was bit over the top. I was a bit disappointed with this one. It is a good series.

Enjoying the Series with my Son
The Skulduggery Pleasant series is for older kids, probably most exciting for the 10-12 age range. But I'm a mom, and I read this before passing it on to my son. (He was working on another book.) One thing I like about this series, which I like about the Harry Potter books, too, is that genuinely bad things happen to people. Though. since the world of magic and monsters isn't real, the young reader is removed from the violence being "real".But the battle between good and evil is desperate and the bad guys are really bad and there's plenty of people who sit in the middle unintentionally making trouble (Think Fudge in Harry Potter) or whose side is really up for grabs (Think Snape). There's also a lot of humor in the Skulduggery series. The Skulduggery books, at least through this 3rd book, do not have the touches of philosophy that you see in Harry Potter, though. If Derek Landy added a little more of the big questions to his stories, a little more of the morality tales, I think this series could turn into really exceptional books. Right now, they are, on balance, more simple fun.But sometimes the writing is downright excellent. Near the end of "The Faceless Ones", Landy describes a Faceless One as it enters our world. His description is amazing, I could see this creature in all it's awful beauty. More writing like that, and he'll have a classic. He's not there, yet, though.Recommended as fun reading.Happy Reader

As they say in the U.K. - "brilliant"
I don't know why the Skulduggery books haven't succeeded in crossing over to the U.S., given their great popularity in the United Kingdom. They aren't particularly British, (except for the dry humor and understated violence), and are perfectly accessible to an American reader. But, be that as it may, you'll just have to be content to be way ahead of your fellow readers on the cool scale, assuming you can find copies of these books. This volume three continues the development of the characters, advances the series' story arc, brings back some favorite secondary actors, and maintains the pace and deadpan humor of its predecessors. If you liked the first two volumes, (and you should probably try to read these in order), you should be happy with this installment.

YES!!
I picked up the final book a year after reading the first two. I was not disappointed at all! this book is a quick read, but PACKED with a roller coaster of action, storyline and suspense. One of my favorite things about this author is that he includes dialogue that is completely relatable. No, I may not have magical powers or have a skeleton mentor, but I know the feeling of excitement, fear, embarrassment... Approachable and appropriate for the age group it targets. LOVED the series

Review for Skulduggery Pleasant
A great sequel for two great books. It was humorous and cheeky. A twist on a fairy tale and a detective story. When I picked out the first book on a school trip to the library, my teachers advised me not to read it, saying it was too scary. I denied their advice. It turned out to be the one of best story's I had ever read. You couldn't guess how happy when I got my kindle fire and found out they were on here! This book was a suspenseful page turner. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys books like Harry Potter.

Great book for young teens.
I read this book with my son, and it was very enjoyable. It's the third in a series. Some of the bad guys (in the whole series) are pretty rough with the things they say they're going to do to the main protagonist, so I thought this was better for a little bit older kids, like 12 or 13 depending on the kid.

The third hit book in the Skulduggery universe! Great book!
This book is the third in the Skulduggery Pleasant series and continues the tales of Skulduggery and Valkyrie in a book which is rich in humour and action. My son requested this book after reading the first 2 and made me read it too!I won't say too much because I don't want to spoil it but basically Skulduggery and Valkyrie have to fight 'The Faceless Ones' in this book. If you've read the previous books then you'll know what I'm talking about and, by now, you'll be itching to get your hands on this book! It's quite dark in places I thought but recommended for those over the age 10 barrier.Summary: The third book in this fantastic series which is highly recommended for Skulduggery fans!

More capers with the skeleton detective
I bought this for my 10 year old. He was given the other books in the series for Christmas but this one was missing. He has thoroughly enjoyed all the books which he has read mostly by himself. They are a combination of a detective and an adventure story played out in a magical shadow world alongside the everyday world. I picture Skulduggery as a Philip Marlowe type character. His sidekick Valkyrie is a 14 year old girl who has to move back and forth between the magical world and the everyday world (and occasionally go to school) without her parents knowing about her activities. The fact that the books have a heroine, Valkyrie might put some boys off as they don't always like books that feature girls, however, she is very much an all action heroine. In this book, Valkyrie and Skulduggery have to battle the Faceless Ones, dark gods who are worshipped by some in the magical world (while hoping they never actually have to meet them). The books are quite dark and there is a lot of fighting so might not suit those of a sensitive disposition. Probably aimed at 11+ to early teen readers although can be read by confident younger readers who like adventure stories. (The books are quite long but if they can read Harry Potter they can cope with this.)

THE BEST ONE SO FAR!
SKULDUGGERY PLEASANT: THE FACELESS ONES is a massive improvement of the second book in the first trilogy, PLAYING WITH FIRE. Not that that book was bad (in fact, I gave that a 5/5 rating!) but I thought it focused a little too much on action, and not enough on characters or storyline. This book on the other hand had action and romance and adventure and TONS of hilarious jokes! I laughed out loud a lot, especially at the start when Valkyrie/ Stephanie is insulting the Sea Hag. I was a little surprised at the violence in this book, particularly in the ending battle. It's not overwhelmingly gory or anything, but I think the recommended 9 and over rating is a little low. The storyline had a lot more laughs but also emotion, and the characters, old and new, were original, clever and fleshed-out. I can't wait to read DARK DAYS!!! I can't recommend this action-packed genius! JUST EPIC! 5 STARS!

Skulduggery Pleasant: The Faceless Ones
Someone is killing off the Teleporters as the Faceless Ones finally return once more.Derek Landy, you cruel man. How can you write a cliffhanger so beautifully wonderful yet so maddenly infuriating? The book builds and builds and builds to this final battle between our heroes and the dark gods of the universe, and just as you think everything is going to end nicely and everyone gets a happily ever after... well, you'll find out when you read it.Once again, Derek Landy weaves magic, mystery, horror and fantasy together to make a marvellous work of literature that will make you laugh, cry, and probably retch at one point. A very fun read.
