A battle-tested machine gun...
The FN MAG machine gun may be one of the more successful general purpose machine guns ever fielded, if length of service and breath of customers are appropriate metrics. The basic weapon dates from the late 1950's, and it is standard for a variety of Western armies. Author Chris McNab explores that proposition in this Osprey Weapon Series book. The author discusses the development of the FN MAG and its subsequent use in a variety of modes, including as a coaxial or mounted weapon for a variety of military vehicles. The text includes lots of technical details, along with photographs, diagrams, and illustrations. The narrative includes a broad-bush recapitulation of its combat use and why it has been used for such a long time (over 50 years in British service). In an interesting conclusion, the author wrestles with the theory that general purpose machine guns have become obsolete. Highly recommended as a compact analysis of a widely used military weapon.

I buy so much from Amazon it is difficult to spend time writing reviews. If I have any problems, I will let you know, otherwise everything was fine.
