One of my most used tools
This is so useful. I have three and gift them to new sewist. I keep them by my machine, in my hand sewing kit and anywhere I may need to check seam allowance or hem depths.

Wonderful Sewing Gizmo!
I recently discovered this device and I'm delighted with it! It's shaped rather oddly, but each square protrusion is a specific width. They're labeled clearly, so you know which one is 1/2", which is 1/8", which is 5/8", and so on. What good does that do? If you're learning to sew, it's important for you to become familiar with the various measurements. You need to know the difference between a 1/2" and a 5/8" seam allowance, for instance. I'm a sewing instructor and I'm always telling my students, "Sew about 1/4", then backstich," or, "Keep your seam 5/8" from the edge of the fabric," or, "Mark the fabric 1/2" from the edge." The trouble is, they haven't done a lot of sewing, so they aren't familiar with those measurements. They either have to pull out a ruler and measure, which wastes time, or they have to guess. I've been sewing for decades, so I can eyeball something and know exactly how far an inch is, or half an inch, or whatever, but my students don't have that experience yet. This little tool will help them learn their seam allowances and all the other measurements they need to know. They won't have to count the lines on the measuring tape to try and figure out 5/8", they can just hold up this measuring gauge and instantly know the width they need. When I showed it to one of my students the other day, he was highly impressed and said it was exactly what he needed. It's thin and small, and made of a very lightweight metal (perhaps aluminum?). Mine has a small hole punched in the top, so you can attach it to a key ring, or hang it on a hook in your sewing room. I'm giving it five stars--very highly recommended!

Just bought a second one.
This is a great sturdy little tool for the price. Two notes: first, it is very thin (but still VERY sturdy, you cannot easily bend it - in fact, I don't believe I could bend it). It is actually thin enough that it may be usable as a screwdriver, in a pinch, so that's a bonus, and it IS thin enough that I've used it to cut open taped-up boxes. Second note: the corners are quite sharp, probably sharp enough to scratch you, so be careful.

Laser Accurate and invaluable for demanding uniform inspections, but thinness raises concerns.
The "ninja star" as we know it in the Navy is an incredible tool. As a student going through RDC "C" School, this product accomplishes everything for measuring your ribbons and warfare devices perfectly. The only downside is the thinness of the tool itself. I haven't run in to an issue yet, but it feel like the wrong amount of pressure at a certain angle might damage it if it isn't stored properly. Other than that, it's an awesome little tool. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Nice, but sometimes elusive
Handy little gadget for measuring seam allowances, etc. It's nice that it is so small but that's also a disadvantage as I tend to lose it among all the trimmings and other clutter that always seems to collect when I'm sewing. Still, it's much more convenient than some of the larger gauges which perform the same function.

Great tool for accurate seams
I'm trying to get more accurate with my seam allowance for better fits. Made a jean skirt for my daughter and got use this, so easy and simple to use I have rulers but this just makes it easier to whip out and check seams. This is a nice to have not must have purchase, but the quality is good, it's a bit thin and I'll probably bend it on accident but I haven't so far! I added cord so I can put it on a hook next to my other measuring tools.

I now keep this right in front of me at my sewing machine. It's been helpful in determining the side to side needle position for various seam allowances, and also where to stop sewing to turn a perfect corner on quilt binding etc. It's small size makes it easy to store nearby.

Love this little ruler. Comes in very handy to measure seams for mask, fold up /roll up bag., anything that you need to measure seams for. I would recommend to all new and old sewers hand sewing or machine sewing

Very very handy. I’m tempted to clip on one of those cord necklaces with the clip? The ones that hold ID? So I have this in easy reach. It’s small but study and very handy.
