Prevents My Dog From Pulling
This type of collar works the best for my dog. I have a 70 pound Shepard mix who thinks he's in charge of the world whenever he's out on a leash. He pulls and lunges, and what's even worse he acts very aggressive toward other dogs. At such times, he bites at his leash and becomes difficult to restrain. I have attended training classes with him, and while there has been some improvement he still exhibits unruly behavior. The humane society where I adopted my dog recommends a collar similar to this one. With the other brand it hooks beneath the dog's muzzle instead of behind his head. Otherwise it works in a similar manner by restraining the dog with a strap across his muzzle. The trouble with it though is that my dog can reach the thin strap beneath his mouth. The last time he wore that type he quickly bit through the strap and then took off after a loose dog. I was to the point of not wanting to take him on walks anymore. He pulled way too much and it was frightening to not have him under control.I'm so glad to have found this type of head halter. There's no way I'll take him out for a walk without it. He doesn't pull me when he's wearing the head halter, and I have better control over him. If he gets too unruly I pull up on the head halter and that keeps him near me. And just to play it safe, he now wears a regular body type harness (fits under his legs and across his chest) along with this head halter. Since both restraints hook to the leash behind his head, he can't reach them. He will twist around and bite at his thick leash, but he can't reach the thinner straps. Obviously my dog would rather go for a walk without having to wear the head halter, but it's the only way I will ever take him out. When he's wearing it he doesn't pull me, and when we come across other dogs I can keep him under control.Update: I purchased another one of these head halters for my second dog. He also weighs 70 pounds and stubbornly pulls. He had a different type of halter that came with him from his previous owners. It hooked under his muzzle. He still pulled, and it was a poor fit leaving a sore looking mark across the top of his muzzle. In his case, this is the only collar he wears since there is no way it will slip over his (large, square shaped) head. My dogs combined weight is well over what I weigh, and yet when they're wearing their Sporn head halters I can easily manage them. Without, there's no way I could walk them together.

Nothing else worked!
I had tried a pinch collar, choke chains, obedience class, the Gentle Leader, thin show collar (that worked on my wolfhound), but my terrier still pulled so bad. This halter is transforming. I was able to run with my dog without him pulling my arm off. The first walk he tried to run after a truck but as soon as he felt pressure he came back to my side and walked like a sane dog. I was able to drink my coffee as I walked him this morning. Didn't spill a drop even when a cat ran past and tempted him. I am so happy with this halter! It was easy to fit. My dog is around 50lbs and has a typical terrier nose: he fit a medium perfectly. It is gentle and has a soft nose band. It controls without causing pain (like the pinch collar and choke collars do). My dog likes it better than the Gentle Leader and responds better with it. He would run away when he saw the Gentle Leader, but he comes right to me when he sees this Sporn Halter. He does paw it off of his face quickly if I leave it on him without holding the leash.Pros:1. It works2. Comfortable, gentle3. Easy to get on4. Easily converts to regular collar (just slip the nose band down)Cons:1. Single color option2. The name. ("What kind of collar is that?" "Oh, it's a Sporn." "Hmmm, my computer got a virus from opening one of those.")

Hot dog! It works!
We have 4 dogs. Three mild mannered lazy sloths and one complete and utter spaz. She pulls, she barks, she growls, she digs random holes (while on walks!), she snarls and she even howls at nothing sometimes. She's been to behavior training, like serious intensive training with no results and she was even put on anti depressants, and THOSE work but they work Too well and she's just not herself. One way to help keep her calm is to walk her 3 or 4 miles every day but that's nearly impossible because she probably will bite someone given the chance.... So someone recommended that rather than walk her at 3 in the morning only on the weekends (because I work days) so that we don't risk running into anyone, we try this collar. She absolutely hates it. She paws at it and even barks at me when I take it out to put it on her. But within 5 minutes of walking she completely forgets it's there. That is, until she starts doing her crazy dog thing, at which point all it takes is a slight tug and she becomes a perfect angel. I can now walk her at normal times every day and she's very happy and less crazy thanks to these consistent walks. It's pretty much the best think out of hundreds of things we have tried for her.

This is just plain awesome! I have an 85-lb pit bull, with insane strength and energy. I have tried other collars and they just weren't really effective. I followed others' suggestions here - sized it to his "old" collar first, before showing my dog, so he wouldn't get hyper.....letting him smell it and inspect it, before putting it on.....then immediately going for a walk, so he would be distracted. Within the first block of walking he stopped three times and tried to paw it off of his face. I would then stop walking, make him sit, pet him, praise him and start walking again. He figured out that if he messed with it, we would stop walking. After that two minute learning curve, he just ignored it completely. I was literally walking him with only one finger holding the leash. I love my dog Bronson with all my heart, but he isn't the brightest bulb on the tree, so if he can figure it out so, too, can your dog!
