I love adventure but at the same time have heard on ...
I am enjoying reading this book. I am 56 years old and disabled. My income doesn't go very far anymore and I had been reading a lot in AARP and other magazines about how much more economical it was to live overseas. I love adventure but at the same time have heard on the news , so many horror stories from overseas, that living there had never really seemed appealing. This book has made me feel differently. I din't realize there were actually communities of Americans already living overseas, so cheaply and enjoying it and have been for many years. We never see any of the good things and maybe it's because the US doesn't want us to know these things. I feel our country is declining so badly, we might actually be safer moving out. The book in no way implies any of this, these are my opinions, but the book does tell you the difference in living, healthcare, and eating in many different areas, not to mention the better climate. It's a great read and I at least want to take a vacation at some of these spots.

Start your research here -- even if you already think you know where you want to live overseas
Given the scope of countries covered, there is a lot of good information here. Also, good advice for things one might not think of before deciding where to live. Many of us (myself included) have a fantasy of living on or right next to a beautiful tropical beach. The authors encourage us to consider whether we will enjoy that same beach throughout the year -- even at its buggiest, hottest and most humid; or whether that charming village is as quiet (roosters? motorcycles? nonstop parties) as we might imagine. They suggest we consider the isolation that a language barrier can create; and they survey the differing cost and quality of medical care from country to country. This is only some of the planning advice offered by the authors, who have lived abroad for years in various places. This book is an excellent place to start thinking about and researching living abroad.

AN EXCELLENT GUIDE FOR MOVING ABROAD!
I have been researching about moving abroad for some time and thought I knew pretty much of what I needed to know. However, I was pleasantly surprised there were many beneficial and important bits of information, some of which I had not even thought about.I felt it was well written and researched. Sometimes (not many) I found some topics could have gone into more depth. I would recommend this book for anyone thinking about or planning to move overseas. It gives a very realistic view of what to expect, both the good and the not-so-good.Also, it needs to be mentioned that both of the authors have spent many years living abroad in several destinations. They are both very seasoned travelers and the reader can feel confident and comfortable relying on their information. It was an interesting and enjoyable read.

The Book is Ok, the Magazine? I don't know .. yet!
So the book is just ok, bought it used cheap , just a good starter its more of an overview and does not get into any specifics plus its old. I have looked at some places they say where "you can get great deals on homes"- eh... not necessarily. It is all dependent on where and since its a foreign country, we don't know if its safe etc in that specific area.Like most books, its a what you can do.. but it is Not a How To Book.If one thing holds true is we get what we pay for, cheap house- cheap area? Maybe not such a good deal. Also, as a side note I subscribed to their magazine in Jan, no issues yet. Emailed them twice asking when will the magazine arrive? No reply, Also International magazine tries to nickel and dime upsell you on everything, some of the things they are pushing cost up to $500 . For me, they can't answer about a magazine subscription? No way they are getting $500 out of me.

A must read for extended travel or potential living overseas
I received my book this week. I finished Chapter 8 before I went to bed that first night. I love it. It is so well written and interesting and informative. I’m even reading about the countries that I’m not really interested in ever living or visiting. I can’t wait to get to the end of the book…but I’m not going to do any skipping as I don’t want to miss anything. I can’t imagine anyone not liking/loving this book. Thanks so much for your expertise and sharing. I think the other thing that is so impressive is that you don't try to "SUGAR COAT" any aspects of living or traveling overseas. It's after all not the United States, and you provide information supporting why things can and well be different.in the various countries.

Great place to start your search
I have been an International Living member for years and even attended one of their seminars in Panama. This book is a good place to get your feet wet if you are thinking about retiring overseas. The book is reasonably priced and very accurate.

Great Book!
Loads of great info at your fingertips. Although most of this info can be found on their website, it is useful to have it all printed together so you can quickly flip through chapters, etc. if you want to check something in particular.I`ve been telling people about IL for years, like my sister. Now I have just passed her the book. Sometimes this is easier than directing someone to a website.I think this book is especially good for older people looking for a change, or retiring, or young people planning ahead, or anyone who has the money and the interest in a life overseas.
