Amazing spinning reel, I have it on a 9 foot star stellar and it casts for miles. It's a super smooth reel and the baitrunner feature is great for fishing piers so you don't have to tighten and losen your drag every time you set the pole down. Hoping to get many years out of this reel.

I bought this to replace my old Shimano baitrunner 12000D.This one is priced bit higher but fantastic reel,I love it!

This is by far the best spinner kayak live bait fishing for ocean fishing. The dual drag system allows for you to adjust the drag for the live bait and the strike. It's hard to use preset drag setting's for live bait because; 1. the live bait maybe be large or small thus the setting needs to be adjustable, and this reel lets you do just that; 2. when trolling the tension has to be adjusted according to the drag the bait is putting on the reel. Hence the dual drag does this because you can adjust it after sending the bait out. The drag can be finetuned to the bait on the fly. I don't believe there is another spinning reel maker that has a reel that can do this. The closest I have heard about is the conventional lever drag reels that Avet are making with a magnetic brake: and hopefully I'll be trying that reel out soon.

caught some huge fish on this reel my son has two of them hes caught all sorts of stuff on the. a few months ago he hooked this monster tarpon on the 4000 size Shimano Thunnis with 50 pound braid. it took 2 hours but we landed it!

This is the 'baby' Thunnus. I bought it because it is reasonably lightweight yet gives me good line capacity. I use it with a medium weight 7-foot Cabela Saltstriker rod for stripers and blues in Long Island Sound. I've spooled it with 30-lb braid and fish with a 5-foot fluorocarbon 25-lb-test leader. It's got an exceptionally smooth drag and the oversized handle makes for an easy retrieve. It won't wear you out after a long day of casting. I like the combo because it's extremely sensitive; I have lots of fun fighting fish in the 2 to 12 lb category but it gives me confidence that I can handle something much bigger. The bait-running feature is interesting but I haven't had a chance to give it a fair test yet since 95 pc of my fishing is with artificials.

I have 7 other Shimano reels for saltwater and all have taken a beating and are still working fine, This one I bought mostly for freshwater use. Brake and reel are very smooth. Reel is light yet very sturdy and robust. The Amazon price was the best I could find anywhere.

This reel is excellent for free lining baits! I use it on my kayak, and it can take quite a beating on the open ocean. Despite some very hash treatment, the reel is still as smooth as it was when I first purchased. Worth the investment!

I've had 3 of these for over 8 years and just bought this one as a gift for my son-in-law. He loves his as much as I do mine.
