Love 'em! Replaced my Michelin Pilot HX MXM4 tires with these.
In April 2014, I purchased a complete set of these Pirelli CINTURATO P7 All Season Street Radial Tires 225/50R17 from my local FORD dealership. These tires replaced the factory-installed OEM tires on my 2008 Mercury Milan Premier which were Michelin Pilot HX MXM4. Seven years later, I continue driving on that same set of Pirelli CINTURATO P7 tires and have found them to be an excellent alternative to the Michelin Pilots, since they offer a similar combination of sport handling with a quiet, comfortable ride.At the time of their replacement, my Michelin Pilot HX MXM4 tires had 46,000 miles on them, were fairly well-worn, and getting close to not passing state vehicle inspection standards. Michelin Pilot HX MXM4 tires are rated at 50,000 miles so they pretty much lived up to Michelin’s claims for durability. Worth noting here is that the majority of those 46,000 miles were from short distance and in-town driving, as opposed to highway driving, since my workplace is located just 12 miles from my home. I also don’t require a tire profile that lets me push my vehicle to the limits, since I’m not particularly aggressive with acceleration, braking or cornering. When it came time to replace the Michelin Pilot tires, I decided to do some research to see what some other good all season tire options might be. Overall, I had found that, while the Michelin Pilot tires performed well on dry road surfaces, they were not so good during wet weather or on ice and snow. Specifically, when accelerating from a stop on any sort of incline on snowy, slushy or even wet pavement, both rear tires would frequently spin out a bit and lose some traction before eventually gripping the pavement and move on as usual. That was never really problematic for me but it was, admittedly, a bit disconcerting to experience when it happened. I also recall that those Michelin Pilots would sometimes have a tough time seemingly displacing water from their tread and capably gripping the road very well, during very heavy rain or on very slushy pavement. However, I don’t recall ever experiencing any issue with losing any traction while braking. If I recall correctly, my research at the time indicated that Michelin Pilots offered exceptional sporty performance BUT only if you drove mainly in areas of the country with consistently dry weather. Despite them being touted as all weather tires, many reviewers complained about the Pilots performing poorly in the same types of weather conditions I mentioned previously. Since I live in South Central Pennsylvania, I knew I wanted replacement tires that would particularly offer better performance during our occasional bouts of harsh winter weather. Sporty performance is nice but not if I have to sacrifice safe handling during wet or winter conditions. My focus is on safety, not sportiness.Conversely, there were hardly any similar types of negative comments from the very many reviews I read, at that time, about these Pirelli CINTURATO P7 tires. For the most part, people commented that they perform well in ALL types of weather, just as one would expect from all season tires. Seven years on, I can now echo those same positive comments. These tires have performed fantastic in all types of weather, whether it is snow, ice, slush, rain, etc. I can also definitely say that these tires have been impressively quiet, and I guess that should be attributed to the Pirelli Noise Cancelling System (PNCS) which is a sound-absorbing device applied to the inside circumferential wall of the tire, reducing noise significantly. In summary, I have been VERY impressed with these Pirelli tires and remain exceptionally pleased that I chose to take a chance on installing them instead of simply opting to go with the OEM tires. When it comes time to replace my tires again, I will most certainly consider doing so with Pirelli, so long as the price is right.
