Tastes as authentic as you can expect
Sambal Matah is near impossible to find online but this is as close as it gets - it doesn't have that freshness when you get it freshly made in Bali but it has the right ingredients to give it the kick and flavors that pairs perfectly with any rice dish.

Tastes of home in winter, shut in on other side of globe.
We have finished one bottle in a week. Wonderful on rice, on chicken, fish & pork, even mixed with veggies or tofu. Makes food even better and keeps my homesickness at bay while in quarantine on the other side of the world.

So good
Used to buy something similar at Trader Joe’s but they stopped selling it, sadly. It’s not for the faint of heart. It is very potent. It has a lot of garlic and lemongrass and it does contain shrimp paste. It is not fishy tasting or smelling. It is a little spicy if you can’t handle spice. The only reason I gave a 4 stars is, even though it was very well packaged and had no leaks, the outside of the jar was a bit sticky and had a rancid smell to it. Maybe from other jars at the facility leaking on them, but other than that, the contents and expiration dates seemed fine! This pairs well with curry and probably any Thai or Vietnamese dish. I go through jars of these!

Too much oil
Flavor was terrific. I gave it 3 stars because after I used it, 25% oil remained. With the price being what it is,I would like to get more ingredients than oil. Also, it would be nice if they had a larger size so I could avail myself to economy of scale. Again, the taste was great but I use goodly portions and it is very pricey.

Product lid not sealed - leaked all over the package
I ordered a 3 pack of this sambal and one of the jars was not sealed correctly. When it arrived, the lid was loose and chili oil had leaked all over the package. I love this sauce but was very disappointed in the condition it arrived in.

So delicious
Had something similar in Bali and checked on Amazon to see if I could find it. It’s not exact but close enough. It put it on blackened Mahi Mahi and it is delicious. The only complaint was one of the jars leaked.

Not hot at all. I wish it had been made hotter
When I read ‘sambal matah’, I thought it would be hot and spicy, but this wasn’t at all. It was useful for cooking though as I could use the ingredients in the sambal that was hard to find like lemongrass
