Primer sight reader for a Level 1 student - Age 8 - worked very well, he moved up quick
Super slow intro to sight reading for my (then) PA Level 1 age 8 son who was 8 months into his first year of piano. Even though he is Level 1, we chose the Primer level for sight reading so that it isn't too difficult for him and he doesn't resist going to the keyboard and just getting the work done. We do two pieces a day, each one in a different lesson. We color in the little daily progress sheet as we go along -- works super well.We used for three months, now almost done, it now seems almost too simple to use as sight reading because he's now in lessons as a Level 2A. His piano teacher complemented him the other day, says that he's doing really well at sight reading and knowing his notes. We'll be onto the Level 1 Sight Reader in a week or so (we always do the sight reading books a level behind the Lesson books so that it's easy enough that he will do the sight reading every single day without arguing). I'll probably supplement with the "Perfect Start for Note Reading" (Olson) which is also a great slow beginning sight reading book.

good tool for self training
I am an adult with no musical background of any sort. My husband bought me a keyboard a few years ago and the most I had mastered on it was dusting it. I decided this year to learn to play it - I live over an hour from the nearest town so not practical to get lessons. I found a lady 45 min from me to teach me one lesson. She had the primer level lesson book by Nancy Faber and let me borrow it. In my lesson she taught me where to put my hands on the piano (middle C position) and we walked through the lesson book a little. I went home played with the keyboard a little, went to Amazon and ordered all the primer level of Nancy Faber including the Christmas songs and this sight reading. I poke at all of them a little every day and I LOVE IT! This sight reading book is primary and a bit on the childish side for me but that is the age it is geared toward. I feel it is good for me to start at this level and am very happy I have it in my collection as a learning tool. I need all the tools I can get! I personally can not write in the books as they instruct you to do - just was not raised that way! LOL I am learning to read music fairly fast I think and I can play some of the Christmas songs and all the primary lesson songs although a bit rough but I have only been practicing a couple of weeks and not every day. I am trying to discipline myself to do at least one hr per day and then I read these books at night some also. I hope to get good enough to teach children and others in my area and my grand children when they are here

daily challenge
This is my first time teaching from the Farber method and I love it. I use the sight reading book as a beginning challenge, but afterwards I have the student repeat it as a practice warm up. The students like it because it is repeats and builds each day.
