An oft-ignored but crucial perspective
The Unfair Advantage is a well written and informative book on entrepreneurship. You will find within it case studies of successful individuals and entertaining stories besides. But there are a million books out there like that, and if that were all there was to this it I would have recommended this book to no-one. What makes The Unfair Advantage actually worthy of being read is something not spoken of or at most glossed over in other books - the role of Luck. And we're not talking about the kind of luck much cited in entrepreneurship, that of having the right product at the right time in the right place to shove down the right customers throat. No, it's more fundamental than that. It's about who you are and where you find yourself. There are more than enough "If you only believe!" books out there already, that to all intents and purposes promises you success by jumping through hoops A, B, and C. The Unfair Advantage doesn't BS you like that. It pretty much tells you straight that those market leaders we all look to... yeah, you're highly unlikely to become one of them. They're outliers, in both their abilities and their circumstances. You're an ordinary Joe or Jane. You won't have their robo-brains, or silver tongues, or their access to familial contacts and capital. But, all is not lost. As The Unfair Advantage makes the case for and as is true, there are ways in which we ordinary Joe's and Jane's excel over these outliers. We exist in niche worlds and can better succeed there than those who are outside and strangers to them.Every prospective entrepreneur dreams of making it big, naturally, but big doesn't happen in one go and for most it doesn't happen at all. This book grounds you on that front, which is very much a good thing in today's world. It tells you to find that thing you understand better than others, do better than others, find talented partners to fill in the gaps you cannot, and go from there. It assists that process with a plan drawn from the authors' own experiences, their failures as well as their successes; implores you to learn from your own as they arrive. That learning becomes a new Unfair Advantage for you, to be utilized in growing further still.

Just buy it already ;)
This is by far the best business book I’ve read in a long time. Something refreshingly human, rather than cold and soulless.Words like “gratitude” and “empowerment” have become buzzwords in recent years, but The Unfair Advantage explores a range of factors that underpin the above, diving deep into concepts that are often referred to only superficially. Referring to the MILES framework will give you plenty to be grateful for, approaching a range of advantages from as many angles as possible. Using impressively detailed case studies, the authors drive home a pair of important points: that the world’s most successful people owe a significant proportion of their success to the “unfair advantages” referred to in this book’s title, and that the rest of us can also learn to leverage our own specific/unique advantages as well.I won’t spoil the book by explaining exactly how that plays out in detail, but suffice it to say that if you’re involved in business in any capacity, this book deserves your time and attention.Startup founders in particular will benefit greatly from reading The Unfair Advantage; as the authors point out early on, investors often rely on the extent/nature of a founder team’s “unfair advantages” in order to judge their chances of success, and whether or not a given project will be suitable for investment. There’s a particular focus on entrepreneurship throughout this book (and an entire section about pursuing a startup), making it an obvious choice for an audience of self-starters, but that shouldn’t limit its appeal within wider business circles. If you have any work-related ambitions whatsoever, whether that involves working for yourself or as part of an existing company, this book will help you out.In short, buying The Unfair Advantage will reward you with the “unfair advantage” of education, knowledge, insight and understanding. Read this book repeatedly, and reap some priceless benefits.
