Merriam-Webster's Medical Dictionary, Newest Edition, (Mass-Market Paperback)
A**N
Authoritative and concise (read description)
First I'll mention what's good about the content and then I'll mention what you should watch out for:The good:1. The pronunciations are reliable, and it considers not only the plural of Latin words, but it shows the variety of pronunciation in American English (for British English, just adapt certain symbols to your speech such as รค, since in American English there are only 11 vowel sounds, but in British English there are 12, an example would be pathology, in Am. English the O in -tho- would sound something like an A, whereas in Br. English it would sound like an open O).2. The definitions are just what you need to know what the concept is, it's perfect for the kind of situation in which you ask yourself "hey so what's this?" without wanting excessive details.3. The dictionary includes several abbreviations that can be useful if one doesn't know them or use them all the time.My personal warnings:1. Do NOT take all the definitions are absolutes, esp. with drugs, e.g acarbose, indeed it's used as therapy in T2DM but it's leaving out the adverse effects such as flatulence, which could lead some people to believe it's always a good idea to use.2. This is more about the pages, they're a bit fragile, so be careful when leaving your finger for too long as it can "corrode" the ink and things start to look weird on the pages.3. Even though the online version of this book kind of exists for free, I'd still recommend the physical dictionary, just in case you're not someone who can read on screen for too long or someone who wants to change tabs in order to look up a definition/pronunciation when you can have the actual thing beside you

My Niece Loves This Dictionary
I have a niece who's studying for the RHDS exam from AHDI, and she's had to study microbiology, immunology, anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, pathophysiology, etc. When typing various medical reports, she sometimes encounters a word she doesn't know. However, she does know what it seems as though the dictator is saying, and with that in mind, it's usually not difficult for her to find the right word in this dictionary, which she then commits to memory.I glanced through the dictionary, and, unlike some of the other reviewers, neither my niece nor I found the print too small to read. Don't get me wrong. If you need large print to be able to read something, this print is going to be too small. However, if you have normal eyesight, you should be able to read this just fine. There are many, many entries in this dictionary, which is more than 800 pages long. I recommend it for anyone working in a physician's office or hospital, for coders, for transcriptionists, for pharmacists, for anyone who isn't positive he or she knows every single word in the medical lexicon.I'm so glad I bought this dictionary for my niece, and so is she. She says she knows she'll use it often.

I bought 2 for my teens
I bought 2 of these for my teenage boys who are in speech and debate this year. God size for their debate bags and a great quick resource to have.

Has more words than expected
This dictionary is such a useful tool for anyone studying to be an EMT or any kind of medical professional. I purchased this for my husband who is training to be an EMT and he was very surprised at how much vocabulary was in such a small book. It has so many terms and the definitions are easy to understand and to the point. The price was also a pleasant surprise as we weren't expecting to get such a good and helpful tool for his studying. This dictionary is very inclusive of medical terminology and I highly recommend for anyone just starting out on a medical career
