There is not any active cooling, it just doesn't hold heat that well. When you get these, you will be shocked how cool they feel. It's almost like magic! I have to mats for my cats on their ottoman. One is a cooling mat and the other is a heating mat. I've noticed that my cat likes to lay on the cooling mat when watching TV with us

A Momma cat brought her four kittens to my privacy fenced back yard 3 months ago and haven't left. I bought five of the blue cooling with toys on the material. The medium size is perfect for mommy and her babies.The mats are very soft, material stays cool, nice and cushiony and very well made. I have purchased the cooling mats before so I knew how well they were for the little kitty family.I do recommend the cooling mats .

I gave this a 3 because my cats did not like it. However it does exactly what it says and my sons dog loved it. Very easy to wash

Once opened my baby went right to the mat. Happy now since her old one was worn out. Love the leaf motif. Question is will she share with her sister.

To small to cheaply made

Six outdoor kitties who emerged from my forest, took over my porch and "adopted" me brave hot, South Georgia heat by "Siesta-ing" on the cool concrete porch backed up to my metal home. I bought this item and have placed it all over the porch, including their favorite "nesting" areas. NOT ONE is interested in it. A couple times I found one or two resting on it, trying it out. But otherwise, it's just a non-issue for them.And I'm surprised because it feels a tad cooler than any other "pad" that I've placed out there, and seems like it would work. Not even the one "Invader Kitty" (a fierce male who is trying to "Trump-Bully" the rest) is interested.

Don't let the unattractive (sorry) designs fool you. This is some advanced magic! (okay maybe an exaggeration) This mat has been tested on concrete, wooden floor, the couch, and the bed. It still provides a cool place for my dog to lay on and has been to the point where I bought more just for those designated areas for my dog.Of course there are other mats that I'm sure stay cool for long periods but for a mat that does not require to be placed in the freezer hours before I think it is good enough! The best way to explain it is that your dog would need to get off of it after a while for it to cool up again. But I wouldn't recommend if you get crazy heat and this is the only thing you have for your dog. It simply serves as a soft mat if your dog prefers to lay on something similar to blanket material but would help maintain them fresh.It honestly works well that I may have caught myself letting my legs rest over a part of the blanket during a hot day. It is also durable as my dog has a tendency to scratch/"dig" at anything soft to let out some energy before laying down and not a single tear in the material!Either way, I'm glad I dont have to worry about any cooling beads or toxic cooling material being exposed as this mat does not have anything like that so even if the mat somehow tears, I know my dog will remain safe!

The moment I put this down, my Benny loved it!! He rubs himself all over it, digs into it!
