Modern Originals: At Home with MidCentury European Designers

Some beautiful projects, but overall not the best book on the subject
I was expecting more from this book but only found some of the homes interesting. I understand the author is trying to reveal the personality of each person that lives in the homes, but I preferred seeing more imagery of the homes and rooms themselves rather than the detail shots. I also did not enjoy the photographer's writing style and would have preferred to learn more about the homes rather than the photographer's experience visiting the home. However, it was worth the purchase and am glad I have some of these celebrated architects/designers' homes within easy reach.

Perfect
This is a perfect interiors book (and I have a collection). Beautiful photographs that give you a very good sense of the spaces, and the exquisite details in each home. And the texts are not just filler.

Lovely book
I love this little book. It provides glimpses of the real-life homes of mid-century designers I love. For some I would like to see more views of certain rooms or more views of areas not shown in specific houses, but it is still lovely and makes me feel a personal connection to the designers highlighted.

Waste!
Are you buying the book for inspiration? There was none ... okay maybe a tiny amount. Dingy small spaces filled w/eclectic items of the period. Leafing thru the book you can literally remember the smells of the tightly enclosed areas and see the dead air pulsating from the furnishings and old books. The best design is on the front cover. Don't be fooled by the architects/interior decorators names that are prominent on the website. You can find their style elsewhere and be suitably inspired. We do not live like this any longer, nor would we want to.

Disappointing
For a coffee table book (and this is nothing more than that), most photos are disappointingly small, and somehow the whole book feels a little dark and poky - just like many of the interiors featured. I agree with the previous reviewer who says the only good picture is the one on the cover. This book is a very useful resource if you want to see how mid-century, lived-in homes really looked, instead of the many, and often rubbish, 21st century reinterpretations. But it lacks almost any information and so this book is useless if you expect to learn anything about the designers and architects whose homes are shown. It feels like the author couldn't be bothered and expected us to just go google the names. Nor could the author be bothered to add any explanatory text to pages after pages of photos. Also, I would have expected to see the homes of at least some of the super influential architects of the era, for example Erno Goldfinger, but no. So for me, this book was a waste of money.

Designerโs homes
It must have been a fascinating book to produce & gives some homely context to the design names we know. However, if youโre looking for a sourcebook of the Mid Century style you may feel shortchanged
