The lines are so clean and crisp... how did I ever live without it?
This cutter (and its rail, which isn't strictly necessary, but highly recommended for ease of use) is fantastic.Already, I'm kicking myself for all the years I spent agonizing over bad cuts trying to use a little handheld craft knife and generic ruler because if I'd known about this cutter, I would have saved myself lots of time, effort, and material.I cut a lot of foam board/cork/paper/etc., and on the thicker materials especially, a good line can be difficult because not only does it need to be straight horizontally, but vertically; angle the blade at all and suddenly the edge is cut in a slope down the width of the material, which can be a big pain when you're trying to get well-fitted pieces to put together or lay inside a framework. The cutter works really nicely. You can swap the side the blades are on depending on the side/hand you need to use. Extra blades store inside the cutter itself. A simple dial adjusts the height of the blade for thicker/thinner materials. The blade pops in/out easy. It fits nicely in the hand. There's not much more I could want from a cutter, to be honest. If I had to pick out something I didn't love, it's that the cutter doesn't move especially fluidly on the rail. It does take a little bit of strength to pull is across, which is something that might improve with age or be a little smoother on another rail (I bought rail made by the same company to ensure it would fit on the lip and all that). Still, it's not like the bit of resistance is a lot or that it's a deal breaker for me; needing to use a little muscle for such clean, crisp lines is well worth it.In all my experiments with it, I did find that it wasn't always foolproof; a few times I managed not to cut through all the way and had to make another pass, and if you're not holding the rail steady, you can shift it mid cut, but overall, with a little care as to what I was doing, I've found the cuts to be incredible. It does work without the rail, as I mentioned, like, there's nothing stopping the blade from being pulled through material with just your hand alone, but the rail (which is made of metal) stays in place better than most simple rulers and ensures that as you're pulling the cutter, the line remains straight. In the past when I used just a blade and ruler, it was still possible for my hand to move and the blade deviate. I even have shaved off parts of the ruler (if it was plastic) trying to keep the blade flush against it for a good line.I'd personally invest in the rail alongside the cutter, especially since other tools can also be used with the rail, and the rail itself is a sturdy metal ruler with a bit of a lip that helps act as a guard for your fingers. My cutter is fairly new, so I'll update over time if I notice anything worth mentioning that would impact a reasonable period of durability and functionality for the money.

Wasn't expecting much but works great!
I didn't have high expectations of this cutting 1/2" foam board that I bought from an art store but surprisingly, it cut it very cleanly. Putting the blade is a little tricky (I threw away the instructions of course) but was intuitive enough to figure out. It allows you to attach the blade on either side which is nice. There are 5-6 blades but I used a single blade to make about 10 cuts of 96" length so I would say the blades are decent.I followed instructions and used a piece of scrap foam board under the board I was cutting, adjusted the cutting depth to be a little deeper/lower than the thickness of the board, used the FoamWerks metal channel to cut it very clean and straight. I found it works better when you make an initial pass to make a thin "scoring" cut on the surface and then take a second pass with full pressure (all the way down) to then cut through the board quite easily, then a third pass to make sure the cut went through the paper on the other/bottom side of the board. Doing this, the board was completely and cleanly cut from one paper side to the other. I also found that I could cut as narrow a strip of foam board as 1/4" but then it's critical to make the first scoring cut on the surface.Overall, an excellent and reasonably priced tool to cut foam board, especially when used with the channel that lets you make a straight cut. Highly recommended!

This is a lifesaver!
This cutter works awesome! I have an etsy store and I have to cut foam board for my products. I was struggling big time trying to get a clean straight cut with a box cutter/utility knife. I bought with cutter and coordinating ruler and it literally saved me so much time and frustration! Now I can make a clean smooth cut in about a minute. Couldn't be happier with it!!!

Great Idea, Terrible Execution
Like many people else here, the blade just sliced through the blue plastic holder on the first cut. Terrible design. The blade also didn't seem sharp enough and struggled to get through a 3/16 foam board. This is a shame, because this product along with the Foamwerks straight-edge this has the potential to be great and make more precise cuts more safely than using just a regular metal ruler & exacto knife..

Works really well
Works really well, has a very straight cut and is a snap to use. Works really well with the channel rail. Only real drawback is that it is a bit flimsy, and some of the plastic seems like it won't make it for too many uses even if you are being careful. The biggest example of this is the little plastic clip where the razor attaches

Nice alternative to fletcher
The cutter is great for cutting foam core. I use it with a straight edge that I already own and used it to cut 1/2” foam quite successfully. I found that if you place a thin piece of foam core underneath the ruler, but not under the blade, so that the blade does not come in contact with anything but the substrate being cut, it worked fantastic. I don’t think that it would last in a production environment being abused every day, but for the occasional long cuts that can’t be done on a wall cutter, I highly recommend it.

AS FAR AS I AM CONCERNED, THIS IS A GREAT ITEM (BUY THE W3001 TOIOL FOR ACCURATE STRAIGHT CUTS
I can't understand the poor reviews. I bough one and with the associated straight edge, this did an excellent job or cutting extra thick foam board. It is pretty neat how the design considers us left handed people. To cut straight lines you really need the W3001 straight edge. The cutter sits in a groove and the blade rides close to the edge making it easy to make perfect cuts.

Maybe Worth $10? But not a Penny More
For me, the cutter actually cuts straight and is fairly simple to use. However, the cheapo plastic is the problem. I can no longer turn the adjustment wheel for no apparent reason. I know if I try to force it it will break. I would have returned it, but too late now. Bummer. Not Recommended.
