Not something we would do ourselves - we used heat resistant paint as we wanted something heat resistant - guessing if you use not heat resistant paint over it - the outer layer is therefore no longer heat resistant - so would it go brown/burn? Would it all crack as the layers of paint react differently in heat- no idea? We were told only to use heat resistant plaster and heat resistant paint around a fire.
