Fireplace XL

This was more or less an impulse purchase, bought in moment when I was contemplating past times when I had a house with a log fire, a dog grate to be precise and I often miss those evenings doing nothing but gaze into the flickering flames and watch the logs burn down, sometimes into the wee small hours, my dog on one side, my cat the other side and me in the middle in a cosy chair, it was so comforting, but those days are gone and I no longer have an open grate. Anyway enough of my past, I am so thrilled with this, I love all the fires you can select from and just like old times, I can once again gaze into the flickering flames of a log fire, it even plays with my imagination and I can feel the heat even though there is none, the crackling sounds also help the experience. I love it so much I have put my spare 32 inch flat panel TV into the space where once sat an electric fire which was never used and so the log fire is in the right place for the experience. So far I have spent several evenings with a glass of Bordeaux, a book and the continuous log fires of this splendid DVD, and let's not forget, no logs are being chopped up for this log fire and nothing added to the atmosphere from burning wood. I now have it in mind to buy some of the others in the collection and may well go for the rainfall one next. It really has made me a happy bunny.

Having no chimney or flue in the barn conversion, this is the next best thing.I read a mass of reviews on other fireplace DVDs picking out the few "fussy" comments that had been written by a critical eye. Oddly a lot of people just say great, fine, looks good but wanting the "best", I honed in on a really critical reviewer on another fireplace DVD that had in the end, after returning other fireplace DVDs, opted for "FIREPLACE XL" and left a reassuring good review. This reviewer had first hand comparisons of fireplace DVD's that I wouldn't get as I can't be bothered with buying something for a tenner & then returning it if its not quite up to my expectation. I'd just put up with its disadvantages.So "FIREPLACE XL"..... all positive comments from me! It's all good, long run times on the fires (I have yet to see the fire loop, but I know it must at some point), very sharp & clear picture quality, shot not too close & not too far away from fires. Good log fires & sounds. My norm is to put the DVD on the "with music" setting and then just relax to the "new-age" style back ground music, ideal if you have guests around and want to chill out and chat by the fire without having striking melodies intruding into your conversations.An odd effect & the wife noticed this aswell, the barn lounge is 32 feet x 16 feet and is never much more than bearable warm at best but after playing the DVD during the first evening, whilst fiddling with the aquarium, I was down to a T shirt and still sweating!?! It must be a subconscious thing! so saves on heating oil aswell!!

I really love my DVD of Fire XL! It is exactly what I was looking for to create a cosy, relaxing ambience at home during the dark winter months. I would recommend one to anyone not able to have a real fire (tenants/flat dwellers etc).At first I thought that the fire would run for the entire length of the DVD and was surprised / slightly worried to find that the longest continuous footage of any one fire was about 25 minutes (which is about the longest of any of the fire DVDs available), but it's actually not a problem at all, as the DVD either replays the fire you've just watched continuously on a loop and the fade in and out you barely notice, or you can have it set to play all 3 fires in sequence. The gaps in between are tiny and softly edited so you hardly notice it change or restart.I have not watched TV since I bought Fire XL, much preferring the cosy and calming sounds and glow of a crackling fire. I love it and have bought 3 more for my friends for Christmas, who are also chuffed to bits having been so jealous of mine! It's great - I would highly recommend it!

The fireplaces are very well shot and give the right ambient, specially if you tweak the TV image for less brightness and more contrast which makes the fireplace more believable and specially good on flat screens.Now, some people state they were yet to see the loop. I must be really unlucky because I always see it (have played it a while).The musics are good for those who like it, but I like just the crackling of the fires. The fires should have more time and less types, because it's between 15 (themes) and 25 (XL versions), and 15 isn't enough to really place you on a state of suspension of disbelief. however, the XL does the trick since after a while, your brain tends to ignore the loop passage, since it is in fact 25 minutes afterwards. a good buy for many reasons, specially the fun effect or just something to be relaxing in, alone or with somebody else.And without the maintenance :D :D :D

Having read a few reviews on other DVD's of this nature I was impressed with what had been written about Fireplace XL - however you are always a little sceptical even when reading reviews. In good faith I ordered it though. Firstly I have to say how amazed at how quickly it arrived and on a Sunday as well. We have had it on about three times now and I have explored the different themes. They are all really good and the picture quality is superb. One of the fireplaces stated that it had bird sound in the background, though when I first played it I could hear nothing. Realised though that the volume was too low so turned it up and then I could hear the birds and got the blazing log fire sound and all the cracking and popping. This time of a year its a lovely thing to have on and when you do not have a real fire it makes the room very cosy and provides a lovely golden glow. Looking forward to sitting around the fire at Christmas when it gets dark.

Why I purchased this: Wow! I first saw one of these on Hoopla in the free Bonus options for November and fell in love with it. I immediately wanted to own more of them by Ambiance so I could play it whenever I wanted a cozy, relaxing fire to enjoy. I have an electric fireplace with a wood mantle and two side storage shelves with glass doors that I love, and my 40" LCD TV sits on top that. My electric fireplace is over 14 years old and still works great, but eventually it will stop working and I will still use it for storage of CDs and as a beautiful TV stand. They are extremely expensive now, so I'm thrilled to have the option of 3 different wood burning fires that I can enjoy for $20. It doesn't show an actual fireplace, just the entire inside hearth where the actual fire is burning, and that's the best part!Pro: Each video can be played one at a time or all three videos can be played for continual long playing up to 2 hours. The options include fires alone, fires with soundtrack of the natural crackling and pops as the wood burns, and/or a soundtrack with relaxing music that reminds me of the type of music you listen to while getting a spa massage. Very soft, gentle, and with an Asian feel to it. I find it to be stress reducing while I work on my bills and review insurance policies, or quietly reading my Kindle books. It's fun to have it 'burning' when my friends come over to visit and everyone comments on how relaxing it looks and sounds. The video is clear and the colors are true of these actual wood-burning fireplace scenes. No cleaning up ashes, no allergic reaction to smoke, no chemicals, and you can easily go to sleep without worrying about sparks or embers! I'm delighted to highly recommend this to all who love the ambiance that only a cozy fire brings.Con: Only thing missing is the smell of real wood burning, but I may look for an essential oil or incense stick that would remind me of the scents of oak, eucalyptus, and pine from when I used to have a real fireplace. I do video work, and must say that the quality was very good. In fact, I forgot that we had it going on in the upstairs room with four speakers. I started coming up the steps the other night and forgot that we had a Fireplace DVD on. I was convinced that there was some thing moving and banging around in the room, and then I realized it was the crackling of the very realistic DVD that I bought. 🤣🤣🤣

Pretty cool to have the effect of a fireplace on a monitor. Event though it's video, the illusion of fire provides warmth.
