I don’t enjoy writing this review at all, but someone needs to balance the author’s 24 friends that gave it 5 stars, but I digress.It’s really basic stuff and not written with any semblance of clarity. I also feel that “for the Modern Reader” is a stretch as almost nothing noted is newer than 1970, especially bad for a book copyrighted in 2023. A lot has happened since the 60’s.I realized the author was a student; I don’t know why I did not catch that he’s not studying economics or finance or anything related to the subject matter at all.This is where online shopping is failing us. This book would never be granted physical shelf space in a store. In fact, it doesn’t take up physical space in an Amazon warehouse. It appears to be print-to-order; my copy has a “printed on” date that matches the day I ordered it. Now that there is basically unlimited virtual shelf space, no one needs to vet this stuff and, well, here I am wishing I still had my $15.

Like most books, there are the gems of information that you get out of reading them; and when it comes to non-story books, advice books, self-improvement, and educational books, I like to get right to the important information. I don't need a long back story or to know why the good information is good information in comparison to the bad information that's out there. The nugget in this book is the concept of value investing. Value investing is an investment strategy that involves picking stocks that appear to be trading for less than their intrinsic or book value. I would have liked the book more if it were 15 to 25 pages, all about value investing. It doesn't need to be longer than that; in fact, it could be 5 to 10 pages and probably still cover the topic well. But books have to look robust, with lots of pages, so they have to fill those pages with something.

This is a lookalike book which doesn't provide meaningful value, it reads as though it were written by chatgpt and has a cheap feel to it; I would not recommend this. I've already used my copy as fire tinder, in an effort to protect people's eyes from absorbing the idea that they might be wasting their time. 0/10.
