I bought two other chess sets before deciding on the Bravmate chess/draughts set ! Two other sets I sent back, 1 was too small (if I moved one piece, my fingers would move a neighbouring piece by accident) The second set , the joint between the 2 halves was fine for about 3/4 but then had a rather disconcerting gap the other 1/4.Also both these set seemed unfinished on the outside of the case/board in that the board had dark finish but the edges when close were light coloured , untouched wood !The Bravmate Set appears much more complete ! All the pieces have magnets installed not just the chess pieces. The case /board is properly finished in one colour. Other reviewers have thought the price quite high ! I didn’t look at this set earlier because I thought it quite cheap !

The magnets work but could be stronger I like the bag that is supplied could do with a smaller bag to keep the droughts separate from the chess pieces nice size. Love it.

I had high hopes for this chess set, but whilst it’s a good size, there are lots of flaws in the finish, reducing what would otherwise be a solid 4 if not 5 star product to a disappointing 3. The one major positive I will give it is that it is properly magnetic. You can up-end the board and the pieces will stay where they were. The hinges are well-positioned, and the wood is *mostly* properly sanded and smooth. You also get extra queens so that you can promote without having to rely on a pawn. Unfortunately, though, the board I received looked like it had been dropped on its corner, leaving dents and roughness to the - relatively soft - wood. The laminate (which is what the board top is made from) had started coming away in one place, and anlthough the pieces are nicely shaped, some of the felts were lifting without ever being played with. Internally, there is what looks like strands of glue gun streaked across the foam. The foam itself doesn’t necessarily hold all the chess pieces securely.At £28.99 (price at the time of writing), it’s a little too steep a price to be paying for these kind of poor finish issues. Which is a real shame, as this set has a lot of potential.

The media could not be loaded. I was looking forward to receiving this, and it didn’t disappoint. This is a lovely set. The board and all of the pieces have a lovely feel to them and they’ve all got their own dedicated space in the foam insert.The foam bottoms are applied to both the chess and draught pieces and the magnets work quite well.We’ve had a quick game of draughts and loved it. I’ve got to wait for my son to come home and kick my backside at chess it’s maybe a little expensive at 28.99, but I believe this set has got many years of live in it. Recommended

Finishing could be better

While cheaper chess sets are available, this is the one I would buy again because it is just lovely. The board is hinged and comes folded in half onto itself with two neat metal clasps to hold it shut. When opened the inside (base) of the board contains all the pieces required for a game of chess or checkers. There are even two spare queens should you be lucky enough to promote a pawn. Everything is beautifully crafted from solid wood and fitted with a magnetic base. The magnets are not the strongest but strike a good balance between easy of movement and stability on the board.I used to play chess at school and was even good enough to occasionally make the 'team' but it is a while since I played, even for fun with my then young children. I also played checkers with my aunts and uncles during our annual sojourns with them during the summer holidays. This set is ideal for me. It is also ideal for beginners and semi-serious players. It is also very easily packed away and stored or indeed carried around for travel and the like. This set helpfully includes a leaflet containing the rules of the game. To my eye it seemed comprehensive enough for starters. There perhaps are more subtleties to uncover and gambits to learn but they will get you started well enough.This is a wonderful set that would make an ideal gift for any chess lovers in your life. I just love it and am really pleased to have acquired it. If you are looking for a well designed and well made chess set then this is the one I would recommend. Thankfully, the price is also very reasonable.

2 in 1 Magnetic Wooden Chess Set & Checkers Board Game arrived nicely boxed with storage bag and user guide/game rules, so would be a great gift idea.In the box I found 15’’ big folding chess board with storage slots for pieces and 2 extra queens.This set is of a decent size, but at the same time portable as foldable and not very heavy.The measurements are exactly as per listing description.All items look and feel well made from a good quality materials.Figures have some slight imperfections due to beihn made from wood but nothing to worry about.Board is magnetic, so all the pieces stay on it nicely.Excellent chess set, suitable for everyone from beginners to professionals.As described, good value for money (£28.99) educational game which is teaching to think and plan ahead, definitely worth to invest in.
