Priced at: £29.00On the face of it this looks like many other lateral flow tests but it is significantly more expensive than you'd see for more commonly tested viruses.The instructions are one giant fold out sheet with medical jargon in multiple different languages. It appears designed for a medical professional rather than a home test.In particular the crucial part is how exactly to obtain the sample. Can you find where your cervicosquamous junction is? That is what the instructions say to get the sample from.A picture here would be helpful to know exactly what we should be aiming for. At this price its not something you want to get wrong or fail to detect because it isn't cheap to try again.I managed to follow the instructions and got a negative result. Hopefully that is correct but I think this product could be improved to make it more accessible.

As everyone knows, the HPV virus is not a joke. It's great that there are such tests on the market. Especially when it comes to types 16 to 18, which are very dangerous. The test itself is user-friendly and easy to use and the result is good. The instructions are simple and easy.

I would say that testing yourself for anything is a good way to rule something in but if you get a negative result I wouldn't necessarily take that as 100% accurate. If you get a positive result you can then explore that further with your GP. If in any doubt, always seek the advice of a medical professional.This kit has a good expiry date on it and all the items are present to give yourself a smear test. I'm just not comfortable yet with the idea of using this solo as I'd be worried about knowing how far to push the swab. Also, medical staff usually have other tools they have while performing this action to make the procedure more accurate so I'd be sceptical about a negative result to be honest.
