Fun for all ages
I wasn't sure how a cheap ant farm would work, but I was very happy with what I got, and it was worth the price. Comes with the plastic case and the white sandy material for the ants. You take off the entire top part, add the sand packets to the bottom, then add 1/4 cup of water evenly to that, then add ants. (you can mail order them or get them out of your back yard). We opted to get them out of the backyard. The stick they included to help get ants into the enclosure was pretty useless. It was actually kind of hard to wrangle ants and get them in the small hole. We managed to catch 9. Did you know when ants feel like they are being wrangled up they get really fast? We got 9 black ants (fairly large ones). Tried getting them from the same location hoping they would all be from the same colony. Not sure if that matters though. They didn't do much for the first bit. I put in a cotton ball soaked in water and some sugar (but the directions say add fruit or bread, and only a couple drops of water). They love the sugar, didn't touch the bread. They began digging after a day. Making little tunnels and stuff. I learned from YouTube that without a queen these 9 ants will die in about 3 weeks no matter how well we care for them. The "door" at the top is pretty small, and it's secure. Ants can not get out unless someone leaves the door open. It's been hours of fun to watch. I catch myself just staring at it because it is interesting to watch the ants work, although this was purchased for my 5 year old's amusement.I have been wondering if we can reuse the enclosure again after the ants expire, or if I need to just get a new one. They aren't that expensive, but it seems like a waste to just throw it out.

Alright
We bought this for homeschooling. It was great to see the ants and be able to observe what they do. I'm a bit bummed cuz some of the ants were dead already when they arrived. Because several were still alive we didn't try to return or get a rebate or anything. My biggest issue with the set is the tubing. Yes it stuck on well enough that no ants escaped. BUT we wanted a loop for the ants to crawl through. When we left it all together the loop was Giant and obnoxious. When we cut it in half, the loop caused the tubing to kink and the ants couldn't travel through, making the loop useless. If we do it again, I would definitely buy another farm to connect them and see them travel better.

Great value and fascinating
Great, fascinating day to day watching ants work. Just make sure to have a food removal system (chopsticks ect) ready as if it's left it goes moldy and gross after the ants have their bit. It's not easy to remove food as the opening is narrow.Saying that it's still super cool to watch and for the price you can't do better. You could reuse the system if you got replacement sand (cleaning the sand given isn't easy as it'll have tiny dead ants in it). This si the second we have bought and got one as a gift.

Ant farm
Got this for my son for Christmas and he is as obsessed. The ant farm was such a good learning experience for him, and the directions were so easy to follow, as well as ordering ants. They came early, the price was great, no issues with durability or tipping, and it was a fun convenient size for a 7 year old.

No Ants, but good deal!
Yes, there are no ants as many reviews have said. You can order the ants or find some in your background. This is nostalgic and brings back many memories since these were popular a while back. It lasts for about a month before the ants die and eat everywhere. You end up throwing it away. It's a one-time use for the price, but the kids get to learn so pick your poison.
