HP D9Y32 UltraSlim Docking Station G2

My company recently replaced my aging Dell laptop with an HP 840 and I needed to (quickly) upgrade my home office to fit the new system. I opted for this 'new' system over refurbished because it had to work from day one.The docking station and power supply arrived quickly in a non OEM box and packaging. The package did not contain any instructions or other printed material but the pwr supply and docking station were adequately protected in bubblewrap.Set up was quick and uneventful with the exception of a few minutes of self-inflicted frustration when it appeared not to be getting power. I had mistakenly tried to plug in the power adapter into the hole that seemed to fit the plug, which turned out to be the cable lock port. Once I discovered the actual (tiny) AC plug that fit the tip of the adapter, all was good. My fault for not taking the time to examine the back side closer, but darn it, a simple guide sheet showing all the ports and plugs and cable lock slots would be nice. No dings to the 5 stars for the item itself, but buyer beware if they are new to these particular ultraslim docking stations.

Exactly what I needed for my new G5 laptop. One thing to note -- if your monitor (or TV) doesn't have a Display Port connection, you'll either need a Display Port to HDMI adapter, or a cable that's pre-built with the right ends (DP & HDMI). I actually tried both - the adapter didn't work very well, but the pre-built cable works great.

Through work and home offices I've had plenty of experience with laptop docking stations. The ultraslim is the best to date. If you are used to older other mfg designs that are more robust and in my mind cumbersome, don't let the ultraslim's sleek compact design fool you. Every feature you need to multi-screen and multitask are right there. I appreciate the vga port is included and if you are like me and still have some monitors around that are vga you can get vga to DP (DisplayPort) adapter for use in the dock. Back to the compact design - it's barely larger than the EliteBook itself and easy click in / click out - no wires or power supply to fuss with ever as the dock comes with it's own power supply so that laptop cord can just stay in the travel bag :-)

Works well a good addition for desktop use. No drivers needed for MS Windows 7

These are great little docking stations, the dual display port comes in handy if you run display port connections. Even converting them is easy with adapters.

Picture shows 2 display ports. Arrived with only 1. Complete rip off for price of this docking station.

Great for use as a second dock in my second location so I didn't have to keep plugging in a power adapter every time I move the computer from location to location.
