Product Description Sergio Leone's classic spaghetti western forms the final part of the trilogy that brought Clint Eastwood to Hollywood's attention. During the American Civil War, the paths of three loners - Joe (Eastwood), Tuco (Eli Wallach) and Setenza (Lee Van Cleef) - cross as they search for the grave of Bill Carson, home to a hidden fortune. As the war intensifies, the treasure seekers become drawn into a battle that dwarfs their own mercenary pursuits. From the Back Cover The Good The Bad and The Ugly, written by Age-Scarpelli, Luciano Vincenzoni and Sergio Leone is the third and last western in Clint Eastwood's spaghetti trilogy. Director Sergio Leone substitutes for the upright puritan Protestant ethos, so familiar in Hollywood westerns, a seedy cynical standpoint towards death and morality, as a team of brutal bandits battle to unearth a fortune buried beneath an unmarked grave. Joining Clint, clearly "The Good", is the irredeemably "Bad" Eli Wallach and the resolutely "Ugly" Lee Van Cleef. The Complex plot of bloodshed and betrayal winds its way through the American Civil War, filmed to resemble the French battlefields of World War One, to the end in the climatic Dance of Death. Arguably the quintessential Italian Western, this 1966 film boasts a fine Ennio Morricone score featuring a main theme that reached No.1 in the world's pop charts. END.

WOW - Pin sharp. And Yellow.
OK you may have read about the transfer. I watched this on my Samsung 1080P projector and the image was 14ft diagonal. As such the screen blisters with detail you have never seen on previous releases. There has been much debate about the new grade. Although an assistant on the film was involved I think that the colour is off as the sky looks green not blue in certain shots and the white on the titles is yellowed. However, I was able to pay with the colour values on the projector and return the image to something I would approximate as "natural". I admit this is "My" interpretation and it worked for me - you may like the new colour palette.Once this is done, the film looks AMAZING. Its a great movie anyway and seeing it so crystal and sharp - far better definition on detail than the previous release - really made the screen come aliveThe extras and menu are just lazy. They are ported over from the original version and I would have hoped that Clint and Eli could have been coaxed to record a commentary even if it were separately and edited as a single track As they are both alive and very lucid its a massive opportunity wasted and probably the last time they will be able to get them. I saw Eli at a screening of the film in 2006 and he stated "I have never been asked to do a commentary - I don't know why?" 8 year son and he still hasn't apparently? If you don't own the movie in HD buy it NOW. If you do its worth a double dip if you can live with the new colouring or change your display manually. All of this is from my point of view if you disagree fair enough I will accept your opinion. Please accept mine as mine.

The Good the bad and the ugly...
Sergio Leone's final part of his man with no name story played by Clint Eastwood who is ably supported by Spaghetti western legends Lee Van Cleef and Eli Wallach who play for all their worth in this epic story set at during the Civil War in America this version has had 18 minutes of footage restored to the running time, this restoration called for the two surviving actors Eastwood and Wallach to return to the dubbing studio to redo their dialogue tracks you will probably hear how much Wallach voice has changed with age.The story starts as a bounty hunt and ends up being a race to a cemetery to find a hoard of stolen gold all the while Leone's partner in film making Ennio Morricone supplies the soundtrack to the genre defining images which have been copied by everyone in some way who made a western after this, there is a Quentin Tarantino quote of the front of the card slip case of this edition which says "Cinematically Perfect" I have to totally agree this is arguably the best Western made with "Once upon a time in the West" a close second. This DVD is in 2:35 aspect and now has an excellent 5.1 surround track which makes the bullets fly and the music really stand out I wonder if the Blu-ray version released in the U.S. is any better?

Cinema at its unfettered, charismatic best
A long way short of being considered realistic, by any stretch, this pales into the dusty yonder as Clint and co. combine in maverick Leone's creative masterpiece that just goes on and on impressing. The massive scope of the film, trying to be an epic and succeeding with ease, the David Lean like landscape cinematography that sometimes makes you feel you are there in the desert heat, are impressive to say the least. You have a fine, stylistic, laconic screenplay which gives way to little bursts of melodrama here and there, and you have three very good visual actors in their own different styles. Then you have one of the most utterly memorable filmscores ever written which sums up the character and style of this sizzling movie so well. It is one of the greatest pieces of cinema ever made, it has such a presence and sacks and sacks of charisma. A stunner.

One of the greatest westerns ever made
The best movie in The Man with No Name trilogy. Director, Sergio Leone crafts his best work ever with his true masterpiece. The visuals alone are a work of art. The camera work and locations are characters in their own right and and make you feel involved in the atmosphere. It's truly one of the best directed movies ever made. It's a gritty, stylish, thrilling and action-packed epic. Its loaded with unforgettable tension and explosive excitement from start to finish. The three leads give classic performances. Clint Eastwood is charming, stoic and terrific, he continued his trend of tough guy roles with this exciting part. Lee Van Cliff is excellent. Eli Wallach steals the show.
