This case is the quality one you're looking for
Most of these cases are pretty low quality. I bought a bunch with the thought of keeping the best and returning the others. And this one won by a a lot. It's much more substantial that the others, without being bulky, plenty of heat sinking capability. The materials and workmanship is on point. And even the led light is high quality and placed well. Not like some of the others with their little point lights or little holes to see the led through. The USB cable is also thicker than the others, and this played a role in what speeds each one supported. While some of the others also had high speeds, this one was more consistent across all my testing, and compatibility.I used a MacBook Air M1 and a Dell Precision 5520. The MacBook had no issues with any of them, just small speed differences. The Dell though, man what are they doing, some of them didn't even mount! Compatibility was a nightmare. And sometimes they'd connect and then disconnect a short while later. This one was the most reliable with that pesky Dell. (I put most of the blame with Dell, and some on Microsoft)The speeds will depend on 1) Your SSD and 2) the negotiated connection speed. I was testing with a Crucial P1 Plus, so SSD speed was NOT the limiting factor. lol. If you can connect with thunderbolt speeds, you're getting 2-3gigs/second, less with USB3, and much much less with USB2.BUT, you may want to connect with USB3 if you'll leave this plugged in long term (or any thunderbolt device for that matter). As when you're running thunderbolt, not only will the device get hot to the touch (but not burning, these things can operate at pretty elevated temperatures), but so will the controller on the laptop! And that's with no transfers even. This was worse for the Dell than the Macbook, but both heated up. Not great for long term use plugged in. Since it takes like 30 min to heat up, it's not even noticeable if you're just transferring files real quick. And this thing is REAL quick at 3 gigs/second. lolThe heating was only warm to touch with USB 3 negotiated connections. This is not a flaw with this device, as all the devices I tested had the same pattern. So for long term plugged in, use USB 3. Still pretty fast, but much cooler temps. Also, even the packaging was high quality. Probably overkill, but nice touch.

Has the performance, quality, and GREAT technical support
I have multiple Samsung 990 EVO Plus's connected to a current ASUS laptop with TB4 ports and running PCIe Gen 4 motherboard along with all TB4 cables from OWC and Cal Digtl cables.- PERFORMANCE - The NewQ enclosure gives me performance that exceeds their own claims!! NewQ claims up to 3000MB/s - I got 3150 on reads, 2520 on Writes and 3280 on Mix. I use CrystalDisk Mark 8.06 for performance measurements.- Tech Support - I did have some problems getting it to work properly and contacted Support. They responded the next day. While it took a series of email exchanges to resolve the issue, including a firmware update, the issue has been resolved, and now my performance is rock solid. Their tech support was truly there for me. I will add that I tried the ACASIS enclosure which had performance problems (like under 1000MB/s) and emailed their tech support multiple times - THEY DID NOT RESPOND. Like wise I contacted ORICO tech support and they also did not respond. So NewQ's tech support wins hands down.- Quality - from the packaging to the actual enclosure itself the quality is evident. Nothing flimsy or cheap whatsoever._ Takeaway - Great product and the price is RIGHT.

dont waste your time, find a cheaper one this one will not last
I would give this less stars, will not stay connected during any length file transfer what a waste! i have only had it one year very upset

It works, I'd recommend
This enclosure gets me around 3000 Mb/s with a decent M2 drive. Works fine. You need to have a USB4 port to enjoy it though. Or at least thunderbolt 3.

**WD_BLACK 8TB SN850X Compatibility ** macOS 15.2 Compatilbility
I have used this drive for months with a 4TB Lexar NM790 and it has worked well out of the box. It has done as advertised. However, using this drive with the WD SN850X 8TB has produced some issues upon initial formatting. I tried to re-seat the larger drive and found in the manual and I believe for one page only shows it being compatible with 4TB drives. This needs to be updated. Either way, I could tell the indicator light was flashing but Disk Utility could not mount the drive and froze for around 30 seconds. Not even a grayed out option showed. This issue persisted ~10 times on an M2 Macbook Air. I thought it was faulty. I had to restart the Mac with it plugged in and thankfully it recognized it for it to be formatted. So, whoever is trying with this particular drive, turn off your Mac all the way, start with it plugged in, and hopefully it will be seen. The OS at the time was Sequoia 15.1.

Over 3GB speeds zero disconnects
This enclosure has been rock solid for me. I put in a 4TB Inland Performance Plus 3D TLC NAND PCIe Gen 4 x4 NVMe M.2 Internal SSD. I've been running this between a new M4 Mac Mini Pro, an M1 Mac Studio, and an M1 MacBook Pro. Speeds have been exceeded 3GB/s read and write on all Macs. Zero issues. No disconnects (unlike a Sandisk 1TB external that frequently disconnected.). Came here to buy a second one and saw an Amazon notice that this was a "frequently returned item".. I don't get why, this is the best enclosure I've found so far, but I also got the fastest NVM3 SSD I could find. This enclosure included specifications for SSD's that would take advantage of the speeds this is capable of.

Well worth the price and stays cool to touch!
This is a great enclosure, especially if you want to upgrade the storage for cheap on one of those new M4 Mac Minis. Read a many other enclosure felt quite hot to touch, but this one had very few complaint on that front. It only gets a little warm, despite being attached to the computer all day. Definitely worth recommending. Even the packing feels quite premium
