Q: What is the length of the barrel only?

Sorry, I don't know the answer, as I returned it, because it was too short for me. My hair is shoulder length, but, in my opinion, one would need either very short hair or use this only for touch ups. Hope that helps.

Q: What are the adjustable heat settings or is it just one temp?

It is just one setting. It does heat up fast.

Q: My little lever doesn’t pop up or let me open the barrel of the iron to use it on either side am I doing something wrong?

I would say it may be defective . I love this curling iron . You should just be able to pop the cover off and twist it to the flat iron side or the curl side .
