Caught this massive ugly beast!
Pay no mind to those who complain that the suction is too weak! They’re not using it right. This one-inch long ugly scary monster was running across my carpet, I snuck up behind him, and *poof!* sucked him up without a problem. You have to tilt the end of the bug buster, like you’re about to scoop up the bug. It might take a little practice, but once you get the hang of it, it works great! (I didn’t have to practice, btw. Must be a talent I was born with.)If you expect a small plastic wand that runs on a single 9-volt battery to have the suction of a Dyson, you’ll be disappointed. If you want to use it to vacuum your hair, you’ll be disappointed. But if you want to pick up bugs quickly and cleanly and then save their creepy little lives by flinging them outside closer to your neighbor’s house than your own, you will love it. :DA word to the wise: If you’re going to fling bugs out of it, either hold it by the bottom of the clear tube when you fling, or tape the tube in place. Flinging by the handle—especially if you’re a good flinger like me—can cause the entire clear tube to fly off. Or, worse, can cause the section with the motor to disconnect from the handle. I had a bug wand like this one years ago, and I had to tape the motor section to the handle because it kept coming apart. It’s an inexpensive, useful tool, so I don’t mind a little tape. But I’ve learned my lesson and now fling with care. :)APRIL 2023: Four years and still going strong.

Not a Good Product. Keep your money.
I am returning this plus another bug vacuum I bought from Amazon. Both are wholly unsatisfactory. Hardly any suction. I don't know if that is because they are primarily designed for children to use. I am ordering a hand held "dustbuster" type of hand vac made for general household use instead of these useless toys. For the price of these toys I am quite dis-satisfied. So will spend just a few dollars more for a "real" hand vac which I will reserve for bugs only. I suggest you do the same, unless you are buying the bug vacuum for a small child. However, they may get frustrated as well, because these things do not pick up bugs of any size!!! We do get seasonal swarms of a couple of types of bugs that are not harmful, just annoying--and my cats think the bugs have arrived just for them to play with--on the window screens, etc. Really need a good way to get rid of the bugs without squishing them on the window screens or walls. Eewwwwww! I give these products zero star ratings, but had to pick a rating of at least one star to submit the review.

BE SURE YOUR BATTERY IS NEW AND IS NOT AN UNUSED BATTERY THAT HAS LOST SOME OF ITS VOLTAGE
I received this item as a gift and when I installed a 9V battery, there was no response . . no suction whatsoever so I returned it and another was sent to me and it too - no suction, no response. I took it to a neighbor who tried to find the reason - and here it is. Even though I installed a 9V battery that had never been used - I had it for too long a time and it no longer registered 9V and this item does not work unless the battery is brand new and actually tests at 9V - not just on a simple battery tester to see if it has any voltage. So I apologize to Amazon and the seller as I just did not realize what the problem was. I purchased a brand new 9V battery and the suction is good enough to suck up a bug and even some crumbs which is a plus. Instructions should be included to be sure the battery truly is 9 volt and not 7 or 8 even.

Good for smaller bugs
I don’t regret buying this product for smaller bugs, in those situations it worked great. There were big insects I could not catch as either they were too fast or the suction wasn’t powerful enough. I found an effective solution for them. We have aquarium fish and of course we had the typical fishing catch net laying around that you can easily buy at Petsmart. I have to wait for the large spider, for example, to be on a flat surface first, they can’t be hiding in a corner. I place the opening of the net flat on the wall with the spider trapped in the middle so he can’t run away. Of course, he doesn’t immediately jump into the net, so I slide a somewhat firm piece of paper in the net and gently prod the spider with it until he falls or walks into the net. Then I place the paper over the opening of the net. Once I relocated him and let him free, it may take awhile for him to get out of the net, I may gently shake the net to help. However, I still found this easier than trying to do the same method with a drinking glass.

Decent device but sucking power, sucks.
I purchased this item because I can’t stand getting too close to bugs. The thought of one getting on my skin is enough to cause a slight panic. The Bug Buster keeps the insects at arms length so I don’t have to worry about a bug jumping into my hand. It’s very easy to setup (Just pop in one 9-volt battery) and it’s lightweight. The idea is great but the execution leaves a lot to be desired. It works decently but I thought it would suck harder. The instruction manual states that “bug will be sucked rapidly into the tube”. They must have a different definition of the word, rapidly, because it’s far from it. The suction is very light and I had trouble sucking up a couple earwigs. After multiple attempts, I eventually got them into the tube.Once caught, the bugs were easily released outside and cleanup is very easy. A little dish soap and some hot water on the tube and a disinfectant wipe on the vent area.I wish there was an option to choose the color. The yellow isn’t my favorite. It doesn’t seem to be the most sturdy either. I don’t plan on this happening but it seems like it would break if dropped. So basically I was disappointed in the sucking power. If that could somehow be increased, it would be the perfect bug catcher.

No mess and it's easy and fun.
Has gentle pull. We have a Japanese Beatle problem in our house, and it work well collecting them. You have to develop your own technique, it's fun to use and eliminates the mess of using paper to grab them.

It works, but poorly.
It does suck, but not very strongly. It won’t suck a ladybug out of a window corner. The battery compartment is ridiculously hard to get closed. It may work on other bugs better, however I have some big spiders. I guess I’ll see. I would not order again.
