The book arrived from Goodwill in great condition. New cover and page quality. I am glad it benefits the good causes of the Goodwill stores as well. It is a good book in filling gaps and teaching music theory and musical concepts that relate to real sound and examples too. We like this edition.

Hate the title, but the content is very solid.
As an amateur musician since age 10, I thought I had a pretty good understanding of music theory. However, as I have been spending more time with my music since retiring, I found some "issues" ... and my previous music theory reference work was long lost to the past. From the very first "for Dummies" books, I have disliked the inherent insult in the title. ... But, past experience with several titles has proved that the "for Dummies" format leads to a reasonably clear discussion of the covered topic's issues. This book provided the clear discussion that both reminded me of "lost" knowledge ... and I even discovered a few things I'd never realized. The construct of "for Dummies" books delivers a step-by-step approach that builds from first principles to a full understand -- at least in a general level. As such, I would say this is a good book for beginning music students as well as a good review/reference work for the more experienced musician, who as perhaps forgotten past knowledge. Obviously, this is not really a book intended for the advanced musician.

Covers a lot and still a lot of work but worth it
Don't think that the fact it is in the Dummies series this book will be a breeze - no it is still hard work. It is a good book and it does cover a lot. However, if you are a guitar player you might find Music Theory by Hal Leonard more appropriate and more practicable, and more likely to be actually used by you or a student. If you are serious, as a guitar player I would get both because with Hal Leonard you will be doing more "doing" and with this book more " formal education". This book uses the piano keys to explain while the other the guitar fingerboard. Any formal music theory will use the piano. Both have sound file, in a CD with Hal, online with this book.

WOW, JUST WOW!!!
Great book for reviewing the basics!!! If this book was a food, it would be A nutrient rich super food lol. Concise, straight to the point and no fluff but still fun to read. This book might require lotsa YouTubing for someone completely new to music theory but if you commit to working through it cover to cover, you’ll have an excellent foundation in music theory!!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!!!

Covers music theory thoroughly in an understandable way
I'm still reading the book, but I've been very relieved that it presents music theory in an interesting and easy to understand format. Even if you start out knowing nothing about music but are interested in getting a better understanding, you will find the material will help you out. I'm very impressed with the presentation.

For beginner musicians
I have played piano for decades and currently accompany at a high school. I was hoping to find more in depth theory with this book, but I already knew half of this stuff. I would recommend this book for novices.

Helps me LEARN!
I'm learning! Now if only I could remember every single thing I read.Seriously though. It's a wonderful book. Music is COMPLICATED and this uses logical language that helps me understand what the gosh-darn-blazes they're talking about.(I basically just said "This uses language that helps me understand what they're talking about." 0_o It's late. Deal.)
