The Cellars of the Majestic (Inspector Maigret Book 21) Kindle Edition

I'm a fan of the Maigret books and have enjoyed every one. Used to have hard copies and was always somewhat frustrated by the use of French since I don't speak the language. Kindle solves that, just highlight the language and choose translate.The quality of the translation in the Kindle versions is much better than the hard copy. Always understandable but often clumsy.The translators often still make mistakes but they are relatively rare. As an example, the translators don't know the difference between a revolver and an automatic; sometimes making up the term automatic revolver. Silly but doesn't really detract from the books.As of 2020-04-21: books 1-70 are available for order and immediate download. The last 5 can be preordered.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, the writing and the character DPI Maigret himself. It was an easy read over a few hours and kept me guessing. The author has a very good sense of humor.

I've read, and reread, the Maigret series for 30 years. Simenon is one of my tow or three favorite authors. Thank goodness he was a prolific writer.

Although I had seen the movie before, to read it was still great.Simenon is a real master.
