HSK Standard Course 1 SET - Textbook +Workbook (Chinese and English Edition)

Can be challenging, but awesome resource to learn Chinese Mandarin

These books are absolutely fantastic. As I begin my Mandarin learning journey, I wanted well known and well formatted books to help study and introduce the language to myself. These did not fail!Both books came in very good condition. The shipping was also faster than I expected. The HSK 1 textbook’s cover has a slight bent spot (assuming it was shipping), but it’s hardly noticeable. The back of the HSK 1 textbook also has the cumulative list of all the vocabulary, type of word, and characters for each. As you can see in the photos, the textbook is in color while the workbook is in black and white. The workbook is divided into pronunciation, listening, characters, and reading.However, I read reviews saying that there’s a lack of an answer key to the workbook, so please keep that in mind. I also saw some buyers having trouble with finding the audio files. Despite this, I think this a great resource to introduce yourself to a quite complex language such as Mandarin. I highly recommend and I hope to continue buying future HSK books!

I am currently a 17 year old who got inspired to learn mandarin. so of course i had to get this starter text book! The text book so far is pretty good in explaining things and they way you’re supposed to pronounce letters and words and helps you understand and distinguish the different tones with the audio. One small problem is that the audio cuts off a lot so i just go on youtube and find all the audio i need for every lesson on there. that is only the small issue but other then that the book so far is pretty straight forward and makes everything clear (i am on lesson 4 moving onto lesson 5) . it explains how to use certain words and phrases and the pictures really help. you visualize and think in mandarin instead of translating from english to chinese in your head. I will give this book a 4.9/5 !! :D totally worth for your chinese learning investment

Really useful material for learning Chinese. The first steps.

The media could not be loaded. Delivered on time. No damages on the book. Only giving this 4 stars because there’s no audio files included but I know some people have uploaded them on Youtube so I can make use of that. Also, the workbook isn’t colored unlike the textbook but I don’t know if that’s how it should be? And another bummer is the workbook doesn’t have the answer key. Maybe it’s something that also needs to be looked up online.

As someone who is currently leaning into the world of language learning this was a very good beginner textbook package. I do wish however, that the workbook did come in color to match the textbook although that is just a small little detail many will not even care about. I would absolutely recommend this for anyone thinking about learning mandarin Chinese and plan on taking HSK tests.

I am taking lessons from a native Chinese speaker that I found on iTalki, and she uses the HSK course material. So, this really helps for me to prepare for the classes ahead of time, as well as review past material.

If I were to rate them separately, I would give the textbook 4 out of 5 stars and the workbook 5 out of 5 stars. I like the fact that the book is thin and concise. Also, in my 20 years of learning Mandarin on and off, this is the ONLY book that I have seen which told me how to determine above which vowel I should put the tone mark on. No other book that I have seen did that. For those of us who are busy professionals (and for others), this is a good book to buy, because of the way it is designed. When the new version of HSK comes out in 2021, I plan to buy their updated books.
