It works, but be careful
I have a 90 gal salt tank with sump so roughly 100 gal total. Recently I have been having nitrate problems with number is the 50s. I usually try to keep nitrates around 20 but it kept creeping up. I tried lowering feeding, water changes, and carbon dosing but no luck. So I decided to try these. I cut a piece about 3" wide by roughly 10" long and put it on top of the sponge filter in my sump. About 4 days later I noticed one of my hard corals starting to bleach and I thought it was being stung by another coral. I moved it but the bleaching continued and in 3 days the entire piece was dead. Then it dawned on me that I put the nitrate mats in the sump. I did a test and was shocked to see my nitrates in the 20s in less than a weeks time! I honestly thought it would have taken a much larger piece to reduce the nitrates in 100 gal of water by that much. For safety I pulled the mat and let the tank restabliize and if needed I will put it back in. So word to warn you, if a 3"x10" piece can drop the nitrates 25 points in 100 gal in 5 days do so math as to the size you need. Also, die to my coral loss it is much better to try a smaller piece first and then put in more or a larger piece if needed. Not the products fault I lost coral.

I was skeptical but it worked, and fast.
I cut a 4 x 10 piece and put it in the top of my filter in a 32 gallon BioCube saltwater reef tank. I use a Hanna nitrate tester for accuracy. This filter dropped my nitrate from 9.1 to 6.6 in about 6 hours, which is pretty impressive for a quick short term fix for a nitrate issue in any system. I assume it will continue to drop. It will be interesting to see how long the pad remains effective. Nice to keep some of this on hand for those times when you have a problem and just don't have time to change water right now.

Decent product
I used this in my filter in my aquarium. My Nitrates were high so I cut a piece of this to size. It took about 2 weeks but the water cleared up and the Nitrates returned to 0. It was convenient to be able to cut it to the exact size and shape I need, so it can be used for multiple purposes. Very easy to rinse off and re-use!

Amazing product! Will buy again!
This is a great filter to help keep your tank clean. It definitely helped clear up the tank where it was visibly clearer after it was in for a few hours. The fish even seemed more lively after putting it in. I like that you can cut it to size and we can use it for our 55 gallon tank and the small 10 gallon we have and still have some leftover. Definitely recommend for routine tank maintenance

For 4 Tray Freshwater Cannister Systems -- Awesome BUY and Value
I use this pad for keeping my Nitrite/Nitrates low in my 75 Gallon tanks with RO Water. All I can is before you use this pad, run strong water pressure over them and thru it for a couple of minutes in the sink before you place in your filtration systems. This will eliminate any loose or residual particles. This is NOT harmful to freshwater fish, however when loose particle are abound....YOU do not want it to be fish food or it can make them sick. I have Sillver Dollars Large and huge Bala Sharks and they are happier with this pad in my arsenal then before I got these.....GOOD LUCK and Happy Aquarium time to all.....

Only use when nitrates are very high. Above 40ppm.
Maybe in a emergency. But nitrates 40ppm or lower is nothing to freak out about unless you have a fish or shrimp that's her sensitive. Plants like Java Fern, Anubias or red root floaters feed on nitrates, don't need Co2 or much in the way of fertilizing. Can not be planted in substrate though. Google, there are other plants like those I mentioned. My plants keep nitrates under control.

Works! Lowered my levels in hours!!
Works! Lowered my Nitrates in hours! In my picture:1- is 0 nitrates2- my high nitrates before filter3- nitrates after 8 hours with filterThe color is yellow with no nitrates. The darker the fluid means more nitrates. As you can see (#3) the color is lighter than #2!!The reason for my purchase is trying to stabilize my Nitrates (duh). LolMy tank is cycling and I'm adding all-in-one live plant fertilizer that contains nitrates. I need this filter to keep the nitrates in a safe level until everything stabilizes.
