Cured VW Passat seat issues
VW Passat seat issues? I have a VW Passat TDI diesel. I love the car. It is responsive, roomy for its class, gets an average 45 MPG, but the seats are horrible for long trips. The power 6-way seats do not have a tilt only adjustment and the bucket seat is extra deep at the back, which puts your back at an uncomfortable angle. Additionally, the higher than optimum seat position at the front of the seat puts pressure on the sciatic nerves in the back of your legs. After a long drive, the extra deep back of the seat plus the pressure on your legs, which leaves you barely able to walk due to your legs "going to sleep", and your back hurting from the awkward angle. ! I love the car otherwise, and reviewed many options. Changing to a true 8-way seat with separate tilt control would cost thousands, and then the wiring harness is not correct to operate it. Trying to shim the seats to achieve a more forward tilt won't work according to the VW mechanic, because the seats have a locator pin which keeps the seat from moving forward in a collision. I tried various seat cushions, but they were of the same thickness front to back, which still kept the awkward angle due to the excessively deep bucket in the back, they also elevated me too much, and the cushions also moved all over trying to get in and out of the car which was really a problem. I was considering going to an upholstery shop and having the seats reworked, which would no doubt be costly, albeit less than new seats. I happened on the Clever Yellow Comfort Cushion while searching for alternatives on Amazon. I noticed that the reviews were excellent and decided to give it a try. The first thing I noticed was the quality of the cushion, as it was as nice as most factory car seats. The tie-down feature keeps it from moving getting in and out of the car.The wedge shape of the cushion meant that extra padding would be put at the back of the seat where it was needed to alleviate the awkward angle created by the extra deep back portion of the seat. Being thin at the front, the cushion did not add extra height where it was not needed, minimizing the loss of head room. The orthopedic cut-out for the spine was a freebie feature, but seems to make it more comfortable. The seat cushion seemed a bit firm at first but after a month of driving, it seems to be breaking in nicely, and with none of the other problems I used to have. I bought a second for the passenger side because my wife was experiencing similar problems with the stock seat. Yes, like all the other cushions I tried, it had a slight odor out of the box, but it dissipated after a few days (I left the windows down since the car was in a garage to help clear the smell). Not a big deal - the new seats had a smell when I got the car! So far so good. I think the problems are resolved. This product was a life saver. The down side? It was only offered in gray and I would have liked to had a better match for my seat color. A small trade off in the grand scheme of things since I can walk after a long drive! Good job guys - as a retired engineer, I appreciate great design. you hit it out of the park on this one.

I like this!
Why had I not thought of this sooner! I’m 5’2 and have been driving an SUV for many years. I always thought that it would be beneficial for me to sit on some type of cushion but never got around to it since it wasn’t a necessity. Boy was I wrong. I can see so much better now. If you are as short as me definitely buy this. It will change your life.It is hard for me to compare bc I haven’t tried other cushions but this one is not bad. It’s not very soft but I wanted it for the height over soft and fluffy. It comes folded so the first week or so the cushion works even better. As time goes on it will flatten out. This works great if you are short and on the lighter side, if you are on the heavier side the cushion may flatten out but this is definitely NOT soft and cushion-y so I think you will have a better chance at it keeping shape. My two complaints are #1 the color, I got the light grey one and if you spill something or eat in the car the stain will be very noticeable. Also I’m not sure if it’s bc of my seat + the cushion my calves seem to hit the bottom of the seat more and that was very annoying in the beginning but now its not that noticeable. All in all for the price it works pretty great. I am very happy with this purchase

It really is clever!
This cushion is more expensive than a lot of other wedge cushions, but it's worth it. Here are the differences:--The indentation in the back isn't a hole that goes all the way through. It's more like a scooped-out half sphere. The cushions with holes lose their shape really easily -- they just spread apart. And they have less support on the sides since the interior edges can compress all the way down. I didn't think this was important until after I got this cushion and immediately noticed the difference.--The strap keeps the cushion from shifting side-to-side. Another thing I didn't think was important, but when you have that feature it makes all the difference.--There's no ridge at the front of the cushion, so it doesn't cut into the back of your thigh and press on your sciatic nerve (really, really bad for you.) The cheaper wedge cushion I had before still cut into the back of my leg, but this one doesn't.--The construction is great. It's firm but not too firm. The sides are of thicker, stiffer material which helps the cushion keep its shape. The top fabric is sort of woven so it stays breathable and cool.--There's no smell!Originally I splurged on this because of the great reviews and because I liked the way it looked. I figured if I didn't like it I could return it and get a cheaper cushion. The first time I sat on it, I sighed at how comfortable it was. Worth. Every. Penny. I bought it because I'm only 5'1" and I want to be up higher when I drive and also because I have a slight injury to my right hip, which is aggravated by driving when my hips are lower than my knees. The Clever cushion works well for both purposes. I actually like driving now.

Good product, but too much lift for me
I like it, but cant use it. First, I am 6'2". When I first tried it in my SUV, the 3" lift pushed my head into the headliner, making it unusable in my primary vehicle, as I can't lower the seat enough to compensate for the lift. I took it on a 12 hour ride in my son's car, and while my head did not hit the roof, the lift put me too high in the seat, obscuring my view of the speedometer with the steering wheel. I could not get it in a good position to avoid this issue, so I stopped using it after about 2-3 hours. Additionally, it put me too high in the seat and just left me uncomfortable in the drivers seat. All that being said, when I did use it, I did have less pain in my lower back, and the cushion was generally comfortable. I think if I was shorter, this would work much better.
