Great pen for the price with one minor flaw
This pen is an excellent bold action pen for the price. It is comparable to pens costing 2-3 times as much (from my research, not personal experience). It’s weighted nicely, neither too heavy nor too light. It doesn’t have excellent grip, but the width makes it ergonomic. I also love the sturdy clip. Because it’s so strong and it sits so high, the pen stays securely affixed to my front jeans pocket where it’s both extremely accessible and secure (so I don’t need to worry about it falling out). I have only used Parker style refills with it, but the bolt action is extremely smooth and reliable.I think this is an outstanding pen that will probably last for at least the rest of my life. My only gripe is that the threading for the bolt & the screw that holds the clip at the top come loose super easily. I’ve read that this issue can be fixed various ways though (using anything from super glue, to thread locker, to dental floss). I added a tiny strip of PTFE thread seal tape to the threading on both components, and they are now staying in place. In sum, it’s an awesome raw brass pen. It isn’t perfect, but it’s unbeatable for the price. Also, it’s one and only issue is easily fixed.

Great pen
After months of use, the finish has worn out but still looks great in brass. I match this with a space pen refill and use this pen all day everyday. It takes allot of abuse.

Simple yet great pen
This is my second purchase of this pen. Lost it recently. Originally bought this pen in Sept '21 to replace a self defense pen that was taken away at a concert. Yes this pen is solid enough to be used as a last resort self defense weapon. Very good feel in the hand. Replace the original cartridge with one that writes better. I always hear "Oh. This is a nice pen! Heavy!" It's hefty not heavy and the patina makes this pen look even nicer than what you see on this site. Move the clip to where you want it so you don't snag the bolt to your pocket and then drop some locktite or crazy glue on the bolt screw and cap. They loosen easily. With all that considered I give this pen a 9 out of 10. Would actually make a great gift to almost anybody.

Gorgeous pen.
This is a great looking pen. It's made of brass so I'm thinking it'll patina overtime. It's very well made. The only flaw it has is the screws coming loose. The screw that holds the clip comes off loose very easily but I have fixed that by using a bit of loctite blue and it hasn't budged since then. I like the fact that this is a heavy pen which means I don't have to put much pressure on the paper while writing. The bolt action system is great and fun to fidget with from time to time.

Simple, solidly built, and adaptable
An excellent pen at a great price! The brass is heavy duty, and the threaded construction, simple and almost indestructible. It has a nice, heavy weight, and the grooves near the point make it easy to grip. I like the fact that it will accommodate both Fisher and Parker refills. I bought this in both the bright and dark brass versions, and liked them so much I'm ordering more of both.

Quality not quite what it used to be
I've had this pen in brass for a long while and use it all the time.Yes, the bolt screw can loosen. A little blue Loctite fixes that. The pen has two positions. One is for Parker style refills and the other is for Fisher space pen refills. This is a great feature since you can use either without needing the adapter (a plastic piece that makes the Fisher refill the same size as a Parker).A couple things to note about this black version:'The "patina" on it actually rubs off. I found this out when I had to use a rubber gripper to unscrew the bottom (to put in a refill). The clip has been changed. As many people have noted in their reviews, the older clip with the "S" cut into it has been replaced with a solid clip with "Smootherpro" painted or etched on. The old looked MUCH better. My black pen had the wrong spring in it. It works, more or less, with a Parker refill, but not with the Fisher refill without the adapter. Because the spring is too short, the refill and bolt lever rattle around when the pen is retracted if I put in the Fisher refill. The older pen had a longer spring that worked well with either size refill. The refills the pen comes with (like a lot of pens) appear to be the inexpensive Schmidt refills. These refills are low-quality and tend to leak and to write poorly. Throw them away and get some Fisher and some Parker refills and just use those.I ordered a pack of longer springs for this pen. Assuming that fixes the Fisher refill problem, I will be happier with the pen. If I can't fix the problem, it means I can only use space pen refills with an adapter, which defeats the point of the pen having two settings.I still think this is a decent pen made with good materials. I would not recommend getting the "black" one since it is just the brass one with a fake patina on it that rubs off.The brass Smootherpro pen I have is a five star pen. This pen is ALMOST the same but it's only a four-star due to the incorrect spring, the inferior appearance of the clip, and the poor patina (I'll probably just rub it all off at some point, and this will be another brass pen).

Idea is good but needs work.
Not my favorite design and immediately returned it. I didn't care for the balance at all and it didn't have a good feel. The ability to use Parker style and Fisher refills with out the adapter was a good idea, but the Fisher refill didn't exactly work without the adapter. The cartridge rattle and would slide in and out when retracted. Only when it was extended was it held in place but still rattled. The idea is good but needs work. If I would have kept it, I would have used the adapter for the Fisher.

Love this pen
I really like the pen. It writes very smooth. I actually bought two of them. Two different colors. There seem to be a coating on the end of the pen. I wiped it off and it wrote great. It easy to hold. I don’t have any trouble with the screw coming off like everybody else says. But if I do, I’ll use a drop of tight on them.My granddaughters love these. I might get them some for their birthday or Christmas. I also like the fact that it comes with a refill. I’d like it almost as much as my space pen.
