Well made - precision focussing
One of the better Macro focussing rails out there today - nicely made - very stable and accurate. Very reasonably priced - no need to go for the 'brand' names.I use it with my Canon Eos cameras and it has proved to be a real asset for all my closeup work

Good value but fiddly to use in certain circumstances
I've only used this a few times so far but it seems to work well overall. It fits firmly to both my pan and tilt tripod head and my DLSR and allows sufficiently fine focusing. My only reservation is that the knobs to lock the rail in place are fiddly to use because of their relatively small size compared with the focusing knobs; they also need to be screwed very tight to avoid movement if the rail is rotated to a vertical position, as when photographing items like coins or stamps, and so considerable care is needed to avoid losing the correct focus position. Whether this would also be a problem with the much more expensive alternative rails available, I don't know. This model certainly seems to be good value for the occasional use I'm likely to give it, particularly as I'm taking single shots of my subjects and (so far) not attempting focus-stacking or similar.

A bit rough, but works
I used these slides for some close-up photography. They work, if rather roughly. A curious feature is that as supplied the forwards and backwards slide projects into the subject, so I found it necessary to unscrew the camera mounting bracket and remount it in the opposite direction. The photograph shows what can be achieved with a little care and patience.

An essential piece of equipment at a very good price.
This is a great piece of equipment for macro photography. Having movement fore and aft and side to side makes it much easier to reposition the camera rather than moving the tripod in order to keep the subject in the frame. I have to say that I've used similar devices that have been engineered more precisely, but for the money this is a very useful piece of kit. There are knurled adjustment wheels to move the camera, and small locking screws which feel slightly flimsy, but I don't think this is anything to worry about- even when unlocked, the camera's not going to move accidentally. I'm not sure how much use the centimetre scales are, but they're there if you need them. With 6 inches of travel in one axis and four inches in the other, there's more than enough adjustment for close-up and macro work and with the locking screws tightened the whole thing is very solid indeed. I have no hesitation in recommending this as an inexpensive essential for macro photography.

Very pleased with this purchase and can see me having loads of fun with this great gadget. Everything fits tight and secure quick release plate for fast removal of camera, if you like doing Macro photography give this item a try you won't be disappointed.5*****

Works but beware
It's ok quality, and does the job. Beware though it has only 1/4 hole and not 3/8

Well made and excellent value
This works very well indeed with a micro four thirds camera and macro lens but is usable also with a similarly equipped full frame DSLR. The movements are smooth and the device is a bargain. Even better focus rails do exist, using a screw drive and twin guide rails, but they cost many times the price of this fine item.

Mixed feelings
A few things. First, the assembly is not firm and tight, but I admit I cannot say whether this is a problem in practice. The specs say it holds 2.5kg, but honestly it's a bit wobbly, so I'm not sure I'd trust it completely. Then something which is not totally obvious and worth pointing out (especially for non-experts):the base of the slider has two small screw holes, so you need to mount it over an existing head (actually, an arca-swiss plate would do), but you cannot attach it directly to the tripod, and the slider is quite heavy: if you have a tripod with -say- a ballhead, this probably won't work well.Symmetrically, at the top of the slider, the camera connector is another screw - not an arca clamp - so attaching and detaching the camera is a slow and cumbersome operation (you need to remove the plate from the bottom of the camera and screw the camera to the slider). If all this is acceptable, then the slider will probably do the job. The 3-star rating is mostly because it's inexpensive, so you can risk buying it and later figure out you needed something higher quality.

Super Ware
