ProDot Shutter Button Upgrade (Red. 2 Pack). Soft Shutter Release Button Alternative

I first started using these ProDots about ten years ago on all my Nikon DSLR's. Since moving to Sony mirrorless, I felt something was missing from my shooting experience. I finally realized what it was; I was missing my ProDots! These tiny little seemingly insignificant pieces of rubber really transform the camera and allow me to not have to think so much when trying to find the button; my finger feels the rubber nub and immediately goes to it. It feels nice and soft, and the tactile feedback when using the ProDot is so much better than a hard button.The ProDot has been extremely helpful for me as I transitioned to new equipment where the record button is separate from the shutter button on my Sony ZV-E1. I put a ProDot on the video record button and it's made all the difference for me.Highly recommended. While I rated adjesion low, this is actually a good thing. I've had the ProDot get stuck against a SmallRig frame once, and the button popped right off instead of pulling the camera's button out. This is good for the safety of your equipment and I believe is by design. I always purchase a few extra to have on-hand just in case I lose one, but that's a small price to pay for the knowledge that a ProDot isn't going to pull the button out of my camera.

The double stick tape on this lets it down. It's either old or weak and it will not last. The feeling of the button cover itself is super tactile and easy to accurately identify by touch. My suggestion is to buy some .02 thickness 3M VHB double sided tape, remove the adhesive that comes with these buttons and use the better tape. I did this after mine came off several times in my bag and it hasn't come off again.

I must say I wasn't sure what to expect with this product, or that I even needed such a thing. But after installing and using it, I will say that I prefer having it than not.Being such a simple thing, and a great price coming in a two-pack, I ended up ordering two more for a friend.Pros:- Applies and stays applied very well- Nice texture and feeling against finger- Helps your finger not slipping off when wet or greasy- Adds a more definitative result when it comes to knowing you pressed the shutter button- Fairly low profile- Bright red color goes well with my camera!- Allows much less force to be applied to the shutter button reducing camera shakeCons:- With less force needing applied, extra frames may be taken by mistake until you get used to the new sensitivity

A great idea that when it is attached, is a great idea. However, they rarely stay on for too terribly long. I've used the ProDot on shutter releases on Canon 70D, 40D, Olympus OM-D systems, and on NONE of them, do the ProDots stay attached for more than a few days. The adhesive is substandard in my view. I tried cleaning the shutter release button with alcohol swabs, letting it dry, waiting a day, and applying the ProDots... They fall off no matter what I do. When they are on, it really is a great idea, helps with more predictable and smooth shutter releases, which of course leads to clearer, sharper shots. Unfortunately, that can only happen for a day or so until the bloody thing falls off and cannot be reattached.Now, as an update, I sent Custom SLR an email asking for them to advise me on their product since I prepared the shutter release button exactly as they stated, applied the dots exactly as they directed, and they all, (5 sets of 2) all fell off within a few days of use. I will update this review if and when they respond.Customer Service DID respond, and after some conversation as to what caused my Pro Dots to fall off so quickly off of both cameras, repeatedly... They sent me replacement black Pro Dots. They seem to be staying on much better so far than the red. I will let you know if they survive the ubiquitous in and out of the camera bag process that Custom SLR says is what is causing them to be rubbed off quickly. Cameras go in and out of camera bags, to me the adhesive should be strong enough to withstand that basic function of photography. We shall see!

I want this for better finger placement on the shutter button. The adhesion does not stick. I used a little bit of superglue. Many would not do that thinking it would devalue your camera. The idea is great, the quality is good and I am going to put the second dot on another camera. Your shutter button may have a different finish and that could make it hard to stick. It's a great idea. It's tactile and visual. I like the red dot but others might prefer the black one.

I bought these for my new Sony RX100 VII, the shutter button sits near the power button and has very little contour. This changes that and so far it seems to be adhering well. It also softens the press of the shutter, I've found that it's easy when you're capturing an exciting moment to stab your finger down on the shutter button and introduce blur, this helps combat that. On top of that it adds a splash of color on a mostly black camera, looks cool. I'll be ordering another set for my other cameras.

I love these.They fit perfectly on a Sony RX100 shutter release and provide a slightly raised, tactile surface that is easy for your finger to locate. (It also fits on similar cameras.)I've had one on a camera for more than a year. This one is going on a new camera.This is one of those little gizmos that simply make life a little easier.Jerry
