The Best Dynamic Microphone—Shure Has Done It Again!
The Shure SM7db is hands down the best microphone I’ve ever used! As someone who has worked with numerous dynamic and condenser mics over the years, I can confidently say that Shure took an already legendary microphone (the SM7B) and made it even better with the built-in preamp—an absolute game-changer.Right out of the box, the build quality is top-tier, as expected from Shure. It has a solid, durable construction that feels premium. The integrated preamp provides a clean gain boost (up to +28dB), eliminating the need for an external signal booster like a Cloudlifter. This makes setup so much easier and allows for better control over audio levels without cranking up the gain on my interface. The Shure SM7db connects via a standard XLR connection, ensuring professional-grade audio transmission. It is not USB, so you’ll need an audio interface or mixer. However, the built-in preamp means it works beautifully even with budget interfaces, as it doesn’t require an ultra-powerful gain boost. The sound quality is incredible—rich, warm, and detailed, with excellent background noise rejection. Whether I'm recording vocals, podcasts, or voiceovers, it delivers broadcast-quality sound with zero distortion or hiss. The low-cut and presence boost switches allow me to shape the sound to fit different recording scenarios. If you’re a content creator, musician, or podcaster, the Shure SM7db is an absolute must-have. It takes everything great about the SM7B and makes it even better. Worth every penny!

The best
Fantastic microphone! I have it paired with a scarlet solo and it sounds studio quality. It looks professional and well built. It sounds incredible.I have used it for both streaming and voice recordings to insert into power points and it sounds clear as day. I get compliments online in games from people saying my microphone sounds crisp and clear. This is probably the best microphone you can get at this price point and I would absolutely buy it again.

Best Mic for Desktop Recording I have ever used!
I don't write a lot of reviews. After a handful of Google searches to find the best mic for desktop recording while not using a sound booth, everyone basically says this is the microphone to get. They are not wrong.I don't care if you're just starting out or you're a seasoned influencer or podcaster, while the price of the mic is double or triple the cost of other entry-level hardware, don't skimp when it comes to your audio. The wrong hardware will make you sound cheap and terrible.I'm recording for a professional presentation using Keynote on a MacBook Pro in addition to recording audio for how-to explainer videos. All of the internal mics from different pieces of hardware I have, including air pods, video conferencing speaker/mic, even the MacBook's own internal mic were ALL terrible. Is this how I really sound when talking to co-workers on Zoom or Teams?Anyway, after installing the Shure SM7 mic onto a Shure boom with Shure's MVX2U audio USB interface (make sure you have a 6-foot HDMI-capable shielded USB-C cable) I was ready to rock.I plugged in the mic and just started recording out of the box. The sound quality from this mic is AMAZING. No fiddling. No volume adjusting. Just pure, rock-solid audio of my voice that blew me away. Even my musician wife was amazed and then she wanted to try it.I have bought other mics before, but this one is everything the review sites say it is. Yes, it's expensive. And worth every penny if you absolutely need professional-quality audio.

best mic i've ever owned
i have an extensive mic locker, but i'm still a novice. this mic without going into specifics because there are better resources out there to delve into the capabilities of the microphone, but ill say if you are after a prime dynamic radio-broadcast level vocal output, this is difficult to be beat.the difference from the og sm7b is that it features its own preamp that provides the mic w variable levels of gain so you don't need a separate pre—whether it's a dedicated phantom-powered in line device to provide clean gain to bring mostly dynamics w enough volume to be heard appropriately without needing to max out levels on your amplifier to try to hear yourself without introducing undue noise, or something like a cloudlifter that sits in between but both provide the same type of thing.my point is you don't need to worry about feeding this mic directly to your amp without a pre in between to bring up the mic-level output to listenable levels. there's also other options to adjust the quality of your sound on the device itself as well that i haven't explored, but i'll update this review when i familiarize myself w further capabilities.also it fits well on my boom (scissor) (not low-profile) even tho it's on the heavier side, tho getting the brand-touted scissor arm might be a good option as something to bundle w this purchase.works w my amp right out of the box (mixer) and this vocal output...let me tell you, is downright the warmest, most flattering mic for my voice (on the deeper side).jumped in a voice chat w a friend who also has a dynamic from this brand and we were told we sounded like we were on professional radio.take that as you will, i have never heard a mic output like this. ever. the low end is handled w care and the crispness of the vocal is unmatched. i'm in disbelief, as im in a call monitoring my voice as i compose this review and it's completely outstanding. i'm told of this high quality.set up is nothing more than providing your favorite xlr cable and getting it on a boom or stand, plugging it into your audio interface/amplifier, configuring in your operating system and launching your favorite chat client.i think it's worth it, as for now, i recommend. thanks for reading.
