Great added safty
We go boating in the islands and cross the gulf stream often. This is great for just a bit of added safety. Once in the island we use it to communicate with the dingy. i can hail my sons well over 2 miles away and can hear them very clearly. Nothing much more to be said, it works great!!

Great basic marine radio for kayak trips
I had been planning to purchase a larger, more complex and much more expensive marine radio with GPS but didn't like the idea of running out of battery power midway through the trip and not having a working radio/GPS unit when I really needed one. It also seemed like a lot of money to spend on kayaking trips which I only get to do every couple of years. So, I opted for this simpler, more compact, and much cheaper marine radio for emergency purposes as well as for marine forecasts and also purchased a separate GPS unit. This was certainly the way to go! It has excellent battery life, decent reception and easily fits in a PFD pocket. And, because it was under $100 I don't mind it sitting in a drawer for a year or two until the next kayak trip. The GPS unit I got also has excellent battery life while also being compact and is usable for land and sea trips, unlike marine radios which are only to be used on water.

Great radio but DOES eat batteries!
I bought this to listen to boat traffic down at my place on Pensacola Beach. It works great, simple, straight forward. Great reception from fairly long distances away without adjusting the squelch. But as I said, it does eat batteries! Maybe it’s just because of the ones it came with, and I’ll replace them today. But on just two days of receive only, they died! But I’d still recommended it!

Great value, easy to use
This is well built and easy to use. Great for boating on rivers that have locks and dams. Allows you to call the lock and dam staff ahead to determine appropriate timing.

Volume is a bit too low
The radio is simple to use and the price is right, but the volume is inadequate.
