My order for a tatami mat and shikibuton from Fuli Japan arrived as promised. Both well packaged. Both very beautiful. I followed the enclosed instructions for preparing them.I have slept on them for over a week now. I would say night 3 was the hardest. I woke up sore. I reckon it must have been my body realigning. I ordered a mattress topper from elsewhere and cotton bedding. Every morning I strip the bed and air the mattress and tatami. It takes all of 2 minutes to do. It is cold and winter in Scotland so I lay it over an airer by a window to circulate. I stand the tatami mat to allow same. The tatami mat has a grassy odour almost like a fermented scent but I quite like it. It does seem to be lessening though. I fold the remaining bedding. The room is sparse so I have space to do this. Before purchasing this futon I trial ran a small foam mattress my daughter keeps for friends visiting. It was to see how I could cope directly sleeping on the floor. It was strange but I adjusted to it very quickly. It does help keeping the room sparse I think.I had previously spent months seeking expensive weekly chiropractic sessions for a sore back and it was in desperation that I researched other ways to help myself. I was uncomfortable in my own bed.Now here I am sleeping on the floor every night and in summary can say this is the best thing I have done for myself. My back pain is all but gone. To be sure the mattress is very firm but I look forward to my sleep every evening and my ritual of preparing my bed in the evening (again, only a few minutes of my time). It feels so clean. I have somehow created a zen haven in choosing to sleep this way. It’s calming and special. It perhaps wouldn’t suit everyone (my work colleagues think it’s odd) but it works for many people. I am 60 years old, so not a youngster but I am able to rise with ease. This is the best change I have made for me.....yet to convince my hubby who currently still sleeps in our bed.

Bed is great and very simple to assemble with only two screw types. Perfect for renters who need something easily packable and movable just be careful not to lift from only one half or the middle joint might break.

Having had a sore back purchased this and after few nights great relief in my back.

Really good matress. I sleep pretty well and get to sleep extremely quickly most nights. Noticed a improvement on my back, only think I would say is it recently feels like my upper back is off.... which I've never had a problem with before

I bought this as a second guest futon that I can use when the need arises. I also have a double fuli mattress which is my main daily sleeping arrangement through choice. Having slept on this single myself also I can vouch for its comfort and certainly once you get used to sleeping on tatami and futon might prefer it to a normal bed. This combo is a good way to see if futon sleeping is for you or certainly as spare sleeping arrangement, either way I recommend
