Leye II just received, won't turn on with any battery or external power.
After a year of waiting and having this lovely EVF in my wishlist, I decided to pull the trigger.Didn't go well and I've been very unlucky.Decided to go with Leye II instead of III because of discount, and I prefer the barrel jack connector to the proprietary 4 pin.The improvement to the software are also available on Leye II, via firmware upgrade.Unfortunately the EVF doesn't turn on.I tried d-Tap connection, Canon LP-E6 (I've 8 batteries, all Canon original). It just doesn't turn on when engaging the two stages power button. Also when I received the product the original Portkeys packaging, inside Amazon box, was open for some reason.I leave in two days to go abroad and I've received a clearly untested and faulty product. The product also wasn't sealed in a plastic bag, but it was just in box foam, which is unusual for electronics products.Very disappointed.EDIT 07/10/2023: The manufacturer/seller got back to me and they offered a free replacement. It also seems the product in my order was a previous purchase from another customer, which returned it due to being faulty.Amazon for some reason decided to relist again, and this would explain the box was already damaged and opened (and the content in the box was quite messy). Not sure how this happened, but I bumped the review to 3 stars due to seller response.Although I did not have the chance to try the product due to being dead on arrival.I have purchased a second LEYE, but version III this time.External product box arrived film sealed although the product itself is still not sealed in any plastic bag with dessicant (and it should be considering the nature of these products). This new one is working as intended although I am now facing battery compartment issues as the grooves where the battery slides in seems too thick or they have the wrong height.QC/QA/design issue?I have contacted the manufacturer/seller again and will share a review/response in a separate review.Have I been just very unlucky, haven't I?

EVF for use on BMPCC6K
I was looking for a cost effective solution to having an EVF on my BMPCC6K (not the Pro version which has optional EVF). I tend to shoot outdoors in bright conditions so use of the rear LCD screen is not very practical even with a shade. I watched some reviews of the Portkeys LEYE II and decided to give it a try. There are several ways of powering the unit, one of the bonuses for me was that its possible to slide in a Canon E6 battery on the rear of the unit. I used a monitor mount to attach the EVF to the camera cage, being fairly lightweight that worked well and I have the ability to rotate the EVF from horizontal to vertical position depending on shooting angle. As some reviews have mentioned the diopter optics are not the highest quality and the screen can look distorted if you don't look straight into the EVF. After using the EVF several times I found that if I maintained firm contact with the eyepiece I didn't experience any distortion. The eyepiece has a sponge mask which looks cheap but I found it comfortable and effective. A spare sponge mask is included. I haven't used the built in waveform, histogram, false colour etc as my camera provides all those functions. For handheld work having that extra point of contact really helps to minimise camera shake. Another advantage of having a HDMI connected EVF is that its possible to relocate it to pretty much where you want it rather than being restricted to having an EVF that mounts directly on to the camera body. All in all very happy with the purchase, I find it a much more effective way of using the camera. 4 stars due to the dipoter optics, overall very good EVF at this price point.
