Great shock mount, no soldering required
If you've got a solid podium and a gooseneck mic, this is a must. It effectively removes the bass from people tapping on the podium or shuffling their notes or any other podium vibrations. It's super easy to install and fits most mics.I've been using this with a non Shure brand mic. I did end up having to buy some O rings to put around the mic since it was a touch too thin and would drop through this shock mount if people adjust the mic. With the O ring in place around the XLR connector though the mic is ready for people to adjust to their hearts content.I think the best part of this shock mount is that it doesn't require any soldering or permanently attaching any cables. Any standard XLR cable will work this this shock mount (O ring or not). So instead of having to buy a cable and cut off the end to solder the wires to the shock mount, this allows you to use pre-made cables as they are without issue.

Soldering required
You will need to solder a xlr cable to the insert. It does not come with xlr fittings at each end of insert. Also calls for a 1 3/4" hole to be drilled to insert the main body of this item. Item does appear to be good quality. For the price, shure needs to add the entrance xlr fitting.

A perfect fit
years ago someone had installed the mount into our pulpit and lost this piece, or they never bought it because they didn't know how to solder. I finally found this, and got the XLR cable soldered in. It was easy to plug a Shure pulpit mic on it, and it sounded great. it gives good isolation from someone hitting the pulpit. The only downside is that it really should come with a 1' XLR cable built in. There really is no reason not to. Because of that I do have to remove a star.Decent value for the money, and it works well when assembled.

Really works well.
Does the job perfectlyUsing it with a Shure mic in a wooden podium. It would have been horrible without this. Every tap, bump, thump, or whatever would have been blasted loudly.

Very strong
I bought the A400SMXLR combo, which combines the A400SM shock mount with the A400XLR insert. We have been using it on our church podium for close to two years. It seems flimsy at first, because the A400SM base is made of plastic and the rubber cushion is slightly squishy, but it is actually super strong. It is designed to allow you to plug a male XLR connector into the female A400XLR insert, and disconnecting the male XLR connector is a matter of giving it a hard yank. At first, we were afraid we would rip the A400XLR insert out of the A400SM base when yanking, but we were wrong. This shock mount is extremely rugged and easily withstands any amount of yanking. We have two gooseneck mics, one 12 inches and the other 18 inches, which we use with this shock mount depending on the height of the service leader who will be speaking. The 14 inch mic is a Shure CVG12BC, and the 18 inch is a Shure MX418. Both mics have male XLR bases which easily snap onto and off of the female A400XLR insert. This makes switching mics a breeze.

Not for Shure A24QG mic... I hope
This seems like a quality product , but if it is intended to fit the A24QG, it should come with an adapter. It is very loose, and my mic will fall through the hole if I don't take measures to widen the base of the mic (rubber bands, tape...).The low review is based on the guesswork involved in knowing what mic it is intended for. The product description would be improved with a list of what mics this is meant to support. Perhaps my mic is not a microflex or easyflex series, but that isn't easy information to access. If there is an adapter I could purchase, I'd prefer that to wrapping tape around it to make it stay in place.

Great Mount, very effective
I purchased this because I could not find a shock mount for my Peavey PM 16S. This works perfectly and I didn't even have to use the insert. If you have a mic body of 3/4 in. +/- 1/32in. this should work very well. If it is much bigger than that it will still work but you'll have to use the insert. Very effective in isolating podium thumps.
