desertcart.com: Deuce Mora Mystery Series Vol. 1-3 (The Deuce Mora Series Book 6) eBook : Heller, Jean: Kindle Store Review: Worth the gamble! - I took a chance on ordering this set for free on Kindle knowing nothing about the series or the author and I’m very glad I did. Heller is a terrific writer, and the books are thankfully free of the awful editing horrors with spelling and grammar, etc. often found in Kindle books. I have no idea how realistic any of the plots are - probably not very although the second book in the series was absolutely gut-wrenching because it dealt with child sex trafficking (not in pornographic detail at all I should add but in subject) and a subplot that was also both engaging and moving. But regardless, the narratives are extremely well-crafted and consistent and kept me completely engrossed. The resolutions were satisfying with good twists. And though I don’t generally like romance in my mysteries, Heller handles Deuce’s romantic relationship in a way that doesn’t intrude on the story and with the exception of one sex scene which is fairly explicit is able to convey the physical aspect of Deuce’s very nice love life with taste and humor. I’m not at all bothered by what some people consider crude language but those who are will be happy to know that there is none in these books. The books are set in Chicago and I really enjoyed being familiar with all the places in which the events occur. The characters are all strong and well-written, and Deuce is a great strong woman protagonist. It would be nice if there were another major regular woman character in the series as all the other continuing major characters are men. Overall I highly recommend this series to readers of other books with strong women in the lead. Review: Absolutely Loved It! - I bought the trilogy and I could not stop reading it! I'm actually running on autopilot as I type this because I was up until 3:00 AM finishing the trilogy. Deuce is a great character. She's very bright; she's an exceptionally good and ethical journalist but she's also a very genuine person. We see Deuce navigating her romantic relationship, dealing with her Editor and her sources, managing her eating and fitness habits, taking care of her cats while writing her column and doing her challenging, high pressure investigations. Deuce always has a dozen balls in the air which makes her very relatable. The stories that Deuce chases offer suspenseful, exceptionally well researched mysteries that really suck you in. Deuce is a survivor with ideals and Heller's Deuce Mora's series is a great ride! I highly recommend them and I really hope a 4th Deuce Mora book is on the way! I just finished the third book and I'm already going through withdrawal!

Excellent And enjoyable.
I liked the characters. I kind of felt I knew the protagonists and the story lines in all 3 books flowed well. I did find a few places where words were left out but all in all it was pretty well written.

Investigative reporter
Deuce is columnist for the Chicago Journal and is always on the hunt for a good story to write about. She stumbles upon stories about an arsonist, organized crime and murdered children. The stories are reminiscent of what is in the news today. She follows the stories until she gets the full story and butts heads with the NSA, FBI and CIA. Great plotlines and having a hardheaded female lead.

My kind of town as presented by my kind of author!
What a great read. The three stories are well written and will keep the reader turning page after page ( or screen after screen on a Kindle) late into he night to find out the outcome of Deuce’s investigation of the crimes she is pursuing. Her use of well known areas of Chicago are fun for the reader familiar with the city. Can’t wait to read another one. Jean Heller is a terrific storyteller. I liked that she mentioned some of my favorite crime writers when her Deuce talked about the books she was reading. Like Craig Johnson, Michael Connelly and Lee Child, Jean Heller keeps the reader involved in the lives of her characters.

A writer’s writer
After reading the first three Deuce Mora novels, I decided to look up the author. I should have figured. How does an author make investigative journalism so compelling? Well, perhaps they might be an award winning investigative journalist. In addition to the high quality writing, I really enjoyed these characters. They had their flaws, but they weren’t stupid. They recognized their flaws and worked on their relationships. I don’t know how feasible some of the scenarios were as far as government agencies and the way they work together and with the newspaper. I also don’t know if all the criminal activity would be possible. But it all seemed feasible and in a fictional story, that is enough for me. Ms. Heller, my reaction to your bio was, “Well, of course she is!”

This series has been the most captivating read I’ve ever had (I’m 62). I’ve not been able to put my phone down for long before reading another chapter. Great characters and story lines. A must read!

All three books were excellent. They were well written and never boring. I enjoyed the characters and learned interesting factoids about Chicago. I'm looking to reading more books by this author. She has the ability to write in a manner that I enjoy.

Si vous aimez lire les Harry Bosch, vous allez également apprécier cette série, avec "Deuce Mora," une journaliste qui arrive à résoudre les mystères mieux que la police !
