Life Changing
I was on crutches and in constant pain for 10 years due to a botched foot surgery. for a torn tendon. The result is that I fell a lot and ended up tearing the ligament in my other foot.---operation #2. It wassuccessfully repaired but the falling and constant pain continued. I then fell several times more andseverely tore my meniscus in both knees. Within 3 days of reading and listening (I bought Amazonand audible) to the book, I put my crutches in the garage, knee braces in the closet and painmeds in the medicine cabinet. Too good to be true? I've said that to myself many times. Yet I"mliving proof of the success of Dr. Schecther's method. This book should be required reading in allmedical schools.

Life changing book and Physician - this cured my chronic arm pain
I had chronic arm pain for 3 years and was completely unable to use either of my arms or hands without excruciating pain, it left me disabled. Within 2 months of seeing Dr. Schecter in his office and reading this book, I was totally cured of my pain and it has not come back. I didn't believe it would work and I had tried similar things like this in the past with Sarno's books, but the way Dr. Schecter describes the mind-body connection to pain really got through to me.I highly recommend this book as a starting point for people that are looking for chronic pain relief and have tried many other medical options without relief. It worked for me and it can work for others, don't give up!!Dr. Schecter is absolutely one of the nicest doctors I have ever met and he is not in medicine for the money he truly wants to help his patients out and this book is very good at describing the mind-body connection to pain.

Great if you've never heard of TMS, nothing new if you have.
I own the whole Sarno/Shubiner/Amir/Holscomb/etc. suite. This book would be a great starting point into TMS but if you already understand the basics and have read Mind-Body Prescription, Back in Control, Unlearn Your Pain and others like it, you don't need this one. It's not poorly written but it is very straightforward writing, and not very engaging. My favorite book on the subject remains Howard Schubiner's Unlearn Your Pain—it is more engagingly written, has more evidence, and more action steps. For a personal narrative, Steve Ozwald's crazy Great Pain Deception details his recovery (sometimes too detailed, but still quite the storyteller.) I didn't feel this book added any new info or perspective to my understanding of mind-body disorders, but again...it could be a great starting point for a newbie.

This book can have a great impact on your pain if you only will read ...
This book can have a great impact on your pain if you only will read it and be open to it. It is time for you to get beyond the supposed structural problems that are causing your back pain or other pains in your body, and be open to the idea that your psychological makeup may be the cause of your pain.About 40 years ago Dr. Sarno in New York discovered that a great number of body pains are caused by TMS- tension myositis syndrome. In essence, your worrying, tension inducing personality is often the cause of your pain, not structural damage in your body. Dr. Schechter, the author of this book, goes beyond Sarno’s work in a very readable analysis of TMS, and then he descibes the ways you can heal many of your body pains. This book was a major help to me in curing my pelvic and back pain.It is key that you understand that your MRI may show degeneration or narrowng of the bones surrounding your spinal cord, but in many cases that is not the cause of your pain. TMS is. For many people, it is very helpful to visit a TMS doctor such as Dr. Schechter so that he can examine you and review our MRI and X rays and get you confident that you pain is not caused by a structural issue. See Dr. Schecter’s web site at (***). His office is in Los Angeles. our pain at its essence is a distraction strategy your subconscious is taking to keep you from dealing with repressed tension and emotional issues within you. Your conscious mind is the curative agent. This is the knowledge cure- the more you have knowledge about TMS ( provided by this book) the more you will heal your pain.

A Helpful, Life-Changing Book that I Highly Suggest to Those with Chronic Pain
This is a great book to read if you suffer from chronic pain or TMS and need to understand why everything you've tried so far has not solved the problem. This is the second book I've read on the topic, the first being The MindBody Prescription by Sarno. This author expounds on Sarno's theories and work while adding his experiences. He lays out the steps to healing, and details the things that will help, such as journaling. I have even bought his Mind Body journal, because I am going to give this program a good, solid chance to help me.He is not the same as Sarno, however. He acknowledges that sometimes and Advil or Alleve helps, so I do not feel guilty for needing such things. He acknowledges that this will a lot of time and work, and there often are setbacks. All of that comforted me, as I seem to be the one with the setbacks. I learned so much from this book and the book by Sarno. I suggest reading both, as you will something unique from each one while learning what the author learned from Sarno, what he went through with TMS, and how he is carrying on what he learned.
