Yes, worth EVERY star of the Five Stars!
The word "WOW" most certainly applies to this super cool amplifier!I had no idea that a headphone amp even existed, until I was researching better headphones (just got the awesome Sennheiser HD 380 Pro's, and LOVE 'em) and, thanks to the audio experts out there willing to share their knowledge, I learned about this amazing addition to the audio arsenal.Having no idea what difference it would make, if any, let alone what brand to get, I went with reviews here, and elsewhere, which all rated this as an excellent amp for the price, that would not disappoint in performance and was the best choice for a portable amp with strong audio output.Well, let me say that indeed such is true!!! I tried this amp with headphones, testing both through my phone (HTC M8) and also my laptop (Lenovo ThinkPad E530) and I was stunned at the increase in output! My audio has never sounded this great! It has a 3x and 5x increase gain setting, and I found the 3x to be more than sufficient, keeping the full range of sound stage but just enhancing and boosting the sound, and doing so significantly. I found the 5x to be a bit much, and it seemed to "thin" out the highs and lows a bit, but, in terms of output, the 3x far more than does the job, and is more than enough boost to satisfy! It also acts as an audio splitter, courtesy of two "output" jacks, so it can do the job of audio splitters I use to run two sets of portable speakers simultaneously on portable devices. And what an awesome box it comes in! Not to be more excited by packaging than the product, ahahaha (like, who reviews a box??) but it was just cool how it folds out with all the instructions and explanations printed inside, and it kind of set the tone for a product that excels in design and performance in a small package. Honestly, I couldn't get over the sound improvement, considering that, at about two inches square, it's not much bigger than the size of those little yellow sticky notes.Beyond the amazing performance, the device itself looks very cool -- flat black finish, solid construction, and just feels like you're holding a quality device, which, clearly, is true!Comes also with cables, one to charge it (micro USB) and one to connect your device (standard 3.5 mm).It may seem a bit of an investment for some, at sixty bucks, but if you have audio equipment that you'd like to drive harder than what your phone or laptop or tablet provides, then it's certainly worth it, if you like your audio. Now knowing this thing exists, I wouldn't be without it. In fact, I'm ordering a second one tonight, to have one at work as well as home!I didn't know the difference that could be made, using a headphone amp, and, now knowing, this is MORE than worth it. Plus, with an internal battery, and its small size, it is easily integrated into whatever mobile music set up you might have. Yes, it's an extra device in the mix, but its zero effort to add it, and the payoff of audio quality gain is incredible. And, for me, that's not even using a "high end" set of headphones -- the Sennheiser's I have (and the external speaker sets I have) are said to work fine without the need for an amp, but it's night and day with using this device and from now on, I won't be plugging in without adding this amp to the set up. It even makes my sub-par performing Bose AE2's sound good!I think it's very aptly named, as a mobile music pump -- it sure pumps my tunes far better than I even knew was possible!I highly recommend!!!

WOW! Brings your headphones to life
I recently ordered a new pair of headphones that were 250ohm and I knew I'd need an amp to drive them well, as my laptop just doesn't have the power to push regular 80ohm or below headphones to their max, let alone 250ohms.My new headphones are Beyerdynamic DT770s (250ohm), my old ones are Grado SR225i and Sennheiser HD280Pros. Each pair of headphones literally comes alive with this amp. While I often had my laptop at 100% output for all three and wished for more power, no more! Generally 50% is plenty for most headphones with this amp.Sound is crystal clear, no distortion on 3x. I tried 5x but honestly even on my high impedence DT770s it's too much, and starts to distort. 3x is plenty. The HD280s used to sound very closed off and boomy. They now have a much more open sound stage, and a more even response.Grados sound about the same. Slightly less bass.I'm guessing this amp rolls off bass a little below 100Hz or so, given the sound on all three headphones. It's not aweful, maybe 2 or 3 db max. For the HD280s and DT770s this is ok, they have a bit extra bass anyway, but SR225s, which are already light on bass, this hurts them a bit. Luckily they're sensitive enough to not really need an amp. There's a slight hissing if you turn down the source all the way and have the USB charge cord plugged in, (UPDATE: This seems to be caused by the charging circuitry. If the amp is fully charged all the hiss / emi goes away when plugged in) but there is no noticeable hiss if the amp is unplugged and running on batteries.Overall this amp is exactly what I wanted. good gain and stability for driving headphones from low power sources like laptops and mp3 players. It's small (3/8"x1.5"x1.5") and light, and has a little clip ring on it so you can hook it to your keychain or mp3 player or what not. Worth every penny. There's not much to beat it in the <$100 range really.1 star off for hiss when plugged into USB and slight loss of bass. Otherwise perfect amp.

Amazing Little MMP!
I have a couple Nuforce DAC's and I really like their products. When I need to add some more punch to the audio on my smartphone I thought I would give this little amp a shot. For reference, I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 and I use the Google Play Music app. I started using the amp with my Sennheiser CX 300B MK II buds, EQ set to "Rock" ,and was really impressed with the boost in sound. It did have some hiss with the buds at low volume with nothing playing, but it disappeared when the music started. I was happy with the improved response on the low end and the added volume the amp provides. At the same time I was experimenting with this amp, I was experimenting with over-the-ear phones to use with Goggle Play Music on my C720 Chromebook running through my Nuforce uDAC-2. The lack of an EQ on the GPM app had me looking at phones with a "colored" sound to enhance the low end, and I had settled on the V-Moda Crossfade LPs (These require a minimum of 48 hours burn-in time). The uDAC, along with the Crossfades proved to be a fantastic combination for listening to contemporary music on the Chromebook (I'm talking bass that will make your teeth buzz). What I wasn't expecting, was how great this little MMP would work with the Crosssfades and my GS3. I set the gain to "High" and turned off the EQ in the app, put on some Astrix, and was blown away. If you want a thumping experience from your smartphone, this is the ticket. Its great that the MMP is so light you can just let it hang off the phone. It may be plastic, but it's very solid. It doesn't add another volume control to mess around with, and the battery lasts quite a long time. The only thing I didn't like was the little metal ring rattling around, so I gently removed it.

Piece of junk, dont waste your money...
Worked as advertised for about 4 hours, and then stopped functioning. I would return it, but the box was such that keeping the amplifier in it would have made it difficult to access it, so i threw it away. :( I bought it for my wife for Christmas, i fear retaliation at some point for such an awful gift.
