The Napoleon P500RBPSS-3 Steel Prestige 500 Is A Winner In Every Aspect
This is our second Napoleon. The first was a great grill, the best ignition a grill ever had, however it had a lot of galvanized metal and thin SS internal parts that between 5 & 6 years just burned out. So after considerable research I found that in 5 years, Napoleon has replaced those with stainless or heavier stainless in some cases better plated metals. I could have rebuilt the old one to like new for a few hundred dollars less than this Prestige 500, but the 500 offered a number of added or improved features such as a much larger upper rack, double the area of the earlier one. That may be in part due to the optional upper back burner in the back that adds a few inches to the depth as it serves the rotisserie that adds a new dimension of capability that not having it in the 1st Napoleon we did not know what we were missing. I prefer the flame thrower ignition of the old Napoleon, this new one is good, just less dramatic. The hood is improved in size and balance to accommodate larger racks of ribs on the rotisserie. One option I considered and avoided this time was the open burners for one or both ends. I had them on the 1st Napoleon and they were never used. The cons are limited to details for permanent installation with propane from a larger source, the lower cabinet usability is diminished by the propane bottle mounting hardware, even with no bottle the cutout leaves it useless for storage as is the diagonal back brace in the center left side that serves no purpose other than to block storing a spare propane bottle on that side. In fixed location, the casters need to be replaced with leveling screws. One serious consideration is the warranty. A very broad warranty with an even better lifetime extension to boot. Register with Napoleon ASAP when you get it from Amazon, including the order number. Easy to do on line and it works to insure that you will not need any proof of purchase years from now for the few parts that do need replacing eventually. There is no reason other than replacing the grills and burners about every 5~10 years that this Napoleon 500 grill should not become a favorite family heirloom.
