Mirror Mirror on the wall, is this the best retelling of Snow White of them all?
WARNING POSSIBLE SPOILERS!Its been awhile since I gave a Twisted Tale book something above 2 to 3 stars. I enjoyed A Whole New World, Once Upon a Dream so much. Mulan was decent but I gave it 3 stars. The Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast twisted tales I weren't so pleased with. When I saw there was going to be a Snow White Twisted Tale and the fact another author was writing one, I was excited. Its a whole new reimagining. Some people complain when these books were written that so many scenes were just a play by play of the movie. With certain scenes yes they can be but I can tell you for the Snow White Twisted Tale, that this actually adds stuff that makes the story better. We read about Snow and the Evil Queen's flashbacks, Snow when she was a little girl and the Evil Queen when she was young with her sister Snow's mother the Queen. We also get a dark storyline of the mirror. I also liked that yes even though Snow White wanted to fight and take back her kingdom, that at the same time it didn't go totally off the wall and try to make this a far left feminist story. My only criticisms are I felt like The Evil Queen's story started off with the annoying sob story that Disney (and back when once upon a time was on) does for almost every villain now. Luckily it didn't stay like that for long and it became that the queen later just became greedy. I also felt like the new plot of "What if the Evil Queen poisoned the Prince?" didn't come till much close to the end. It should have been dragged out much longer I think. Other than that I think this book is worth 4 stars. If you're into fairytales, fairytale retellings and Disney I recommend this book.

Young Adult audience targeted; still generally interesting read
I have the entire " twisted tales" series and of course purchased this one to continue the collection. Snow white is one of my favorite story tales so i was excited to see what the author did with this story. On the surface the Snow white fairy tale is generally pretty weak, a pretty girl being cast out by her evil step mother and finds love. So i like to see how different authors tell the story from a different perspective. Comparing this book to the others I can say they all pretty much follow the same "flow" either the twist is in the beginning or at the end of the story. This twist didn't really add or take away from this story at all. What if the evil queen poisoned the prince? okay intriguing, but the twist like some of the others, is not until the very end. Instead most of the focus is on character development and seeing how the evil queen becomes corrupt. I did appreciate the backstory of the evil queen, but I felt that snow white was almost a side character in her own story. I enjoyed the read i thought it was well written and interesting enough to want to keep reading. But i would have liked to see more of snow white and possibly have the prince poisoned maybe earlier on in the story. But the author did a good job none the less. Like the rest of the series you can tell it is meant for a Young Adult reader, but can be enjoyed by anyone of any age. There is not any "adult" content in the box so for parents wondering how adult the book is I cant even recall the prince and snow white ever even kissing. Perhaps at the very end but honestly there is just a lot of flirtation and general awkwardness between them.Overall i would say if you are open to different interpretations of fairy tales or just want something new to read give it a shot. But keep in mind the target market is Young adults and not really mature readers.

Beautifully done!
Wow! What a fantastic reimagining! What and who had been painted in broad strokes on the screen so long ago are here filled in, textured, given shading and depth, at least to the extent the length of the book allowed. Snow is given agency of her own, her usually - maligned too-passive characteristics of cleaning, singing, communing with birds, and being simply sweet, are interpreted here as subversive acts of survival and finding her own choice, her cleaning à way to brighten her prison - like surroundings and give her routine and a way to survive growing up basically incarcerated, and later a way for her to show kindness to others, her bird - connection and singing an homage to her mother, who we also get to know as an excellent agriculturist, effective and engaged queen, and guiding presence even when gone from Snow's life. I did wish we got to see more of the dwarves ' personalities beyond their stock traits, but the refashioning of the prince from simply handsome and charming to a true ally with interests in common with Snow that range beyond romance was refreshing. I also liked the addition of a female friend, something sorely missing in the older Disney princess tales. I did find the Queen's transformation from one who protects her sister from their abuser to utterly ruthless despot a bit too fast for my liking, but the mirror device did explain it, even if not to the extent I would have wished. Overall, a very well-done retelling!

I really like this story
Mirror mirror is an interesting take on the Snow White tale. As it's one of the books in the Twisted Tale series it takes the original and adds major and minor differences.I don't want to give much away in the story because it's more fun to follow along and have everything unfold step by step as you read it. However, there are some non-spoilery things that I can talk about without feeling guilty. In this story, when Snow White's mother dies, kingdom quickly becomes ruled by Snow White’s stepmother, who is known as the Evil Queen. However, due to a certain magic mirror and some new information, the Evil Queen does something that she does in the original tale. Soon Snow finds herself having to reassess her entire life. She does this with the help of a few new friends and an old friend she met a time or two. I know that didn't give a lot of information about the story but I guarantee (in a most likely sort of way) if you like Twisted Tales or if you like fairy tale retellings or if you just like fairy tales at all you'll really like this one. This is very good. It sticks to the original Tale closely but at the same time it takes liberties and makes it its own story yet still the tale you've grown up loving. I definitely recommend this story to anyone who fits the categories that I mentioned above.

Loved it
I'm an OG Disney fan.. and these books have been so much fun to read. Seeing a different side to characters I've known my whole life, is making me feel like a little girl again. Curled up in front of the TV with my snacks and excitement waiting for mom to press 'play' on the VCR. :)
