Unmentionable Cuisine

Ever-So-Tasty Neglected Creatures
Great recipes for those evenings when you just don't know what to cook and something appears dead in your yard. This has saved me countless trips to the store. And if I don't come across anything interesting in the road it's not a problem - I just dig a bit in my garden and find grubs and larvae for a tantalizing meal. The toasted insects can also be used in desserts and Jello molds so I've got that covered. My only complaint is that the book lacks suggestions for side dishes.

Vegan nightmare book.
Food and weirdness combine in this wonderful book. Some of the recipes are a little vague but then I didn't really buy this to cook from. It's not all bizarre but it certainly opens the eyes to what people are willing to eat. The ever suspicious term "delicacy" would be best to use for a lot of the cuisine in here but much of the rest seems to be included on the basis that some lunatic ate it once. Just because you can doesn't mean you should.Good fun and educational. Like a frightening culinary Sesame Street.

Impressive
An impressive collection of food preparations that are difficult to find elsewhere. It truly gives one a sense of the world of food beyond fast food and steaks. Be warned that most of it is not recipes. He provides some ideas of how to prepare the food but you'll have to develop the recipes yourself. I'm also rather disappointed that he didn't include references but that's my quirk.

Just In Case
Just in case you have to cook to survive, this book tells you how to make the most elaborate, delicious meal from unmentionables. YuK, but in a pinch to survive, a YUK may turn into a YUM. A great read anyway.

Surprise - people eat things other than than french fries!
A fun introduction to foods that we do not usually think of as comestible. No recipes for newt eyes though, but there are recipes for mice, rats, grasshoppers and pretty much anything else that can creep, crawl or walk. People in other parts of the world make do and enjoy many items that may be very tasty which we would abhor the thought of even eating, even when faced with starvation. French fries and hamburgers aren't everything.

Very good resource for less known recipes
Unmentionable cusine is a very old school cook book, with no pictures, but absolutely packed with information. At the beginning of each chapter author shortly discusses the animal or part of the animal in question, mentions any food taboos connected with it in different parts of the world, shortly goes over the preparation and then lays out recipes. The most interesting part for me is that book contains numerous recipes about offal and less eaten parts of animals. eating which our grandparents used to find normal, but somehow in modern times when the supermarket shelves are packed with lean cuts of meat, it slipped out of our habits. It's definitely a good buy for food enthusiasts, especially for those that are interested in eating "head to tail"

Libro introvabile e d'antiquariato
Libro in inglese, ormai quasi d'antiquariato e introvabile in Italia. Consigliato se siete curiosi e di mente aperta sulle abitudini alimentari di altri popoli, che mangiano animali che voi forse non mangereste mai.
